What hope do we have?!

What hope do we have trying to persuade owners to feed a good quality food when Wilko are selling 2.5kg bags of Wagg… for £1!?!?

I was in there earlier picking up some rawhides for the boys and couldn’t believe it. I know there are lots of great owners who do decide to change when they are informed their current food of choice… wagg, bakers, pedigree etc, is rubbish – but there are bound to be SO many more who see the Wagg at £1, and compare it to the likes of JWB, Arden Grange etc, and carry on feeding this crap because of the price.

Makes me so sad really Saw at least six people with bags and bags of it in their trollies and baskets.

Totally agree. It's pretty bleak really. If me and OH spend on average £60 a month on a few meals out then why can't we spend as much on Florence and Louie's food?! Although Wilkos do good quality poo bags so I do pop in there from time to time.

Re: What hope do we have?!

That's ridiculous, even with the argument that you spend less on a good quality food there's no way anything can compare to that

Re: What hope do we have?!

I always see people with Bakers

I find Maya a great way of telling thme it's bad food

etc if she goes to sniff it, I tell her,"No Maya, you can't have crap food like that, don't lower yourself to even sniff it as you'll never get to try it".

It's worked sometimes i've had owners embarrassed and put it back or ask,"Oh what does she eat then, she's in such fantastic condition" and I explain

Re: What hope do we have?!

I fed Grufty on Wagg and mega cheap working dog's food from Kennelgate (£8 for 15 kg) and he lived a happy healthy 17 years.

I sometimes question why I buy such expensive food now and wonder if I'm wasting my money

Re: What hope do we have?!

I'm not sure if the majority feed good quality or not. Judging by the amount of pet food I see in trolleys when I'm in the supermarket, I seriously doubt it.

That said, my last dog had nothing but shops own/special offer tins and mixer biscuits Def not something I would do now with so much better quality readily available.

Re: What hope do we have?!

wagg is a lot better than some of the supermarket foods like bakers and pedigree....i know a lot of people who fed it to their dogs and still do, a lot of them on this forum and their dogs do great on it whereas can`t tolerate some of the 'great' foods you mention. in fact a food is only as good as the dog you`re feeding it to....i know for a fact my jake wouldn`t tolerate jwb, arden grange or anything like that. i dunno how he`d be on wagg as i`ve never used it but it`s by far not the worst food you can buy and i don`t like the way people feel the need to put others down for using it. i can say for certain that if someone tried to make me feel embarrassed for buying a certain food for my dog then they`d be the one leaving embarrassed and not me

it`s kinda like kids and certain foods - a lot of people frown on people stuffing their kids up on processed foods BUT i know a woman and she can`t feed her daughter healthy foods as her daughter is so ill and needs all the extra fats and stuff that`s in the junk food just to help her get by. of course there`s certain foods i can`t stand like bakers and pedigree but like i said, wagg isn`t the worse and i would never make someone feel bad for feeding any type of food to their dog as, at the end of the day it could be a lot worse!

just thought i`d add - i don`t feed any supermarket brands or the brands from p@h either that were mentioned above

That's the thing isn't it I mean, 1kg for 2.5kg - that's at least a week or two worth of food for a small/medium dog.

Good on ya. Must admit I wouldn't have the guts to actually say anything to anyway about the food they feed - not in person anyway

I know many dogs do live long healthy lives on rubbish foods, it just makes me sad that such awful foods are promoted as such. I mean £1 a bag! It's obviously what alot of people will choose due to the price - and it IS a bad food, even if dogs appear to do well on it.

Wagg is much, much worse than Pedigree - marginally better than Bakers maybe, but it's still extremely low grade food. My argument isn't about ''making people feel bad/putting people down about it etc'' about using it - my gripe is the fact it is being sold SO cheaply - promoting it as such - I don't agree with it. It's absolutely awful stuff - unhealthy for dogs and can be detrimental to their health - just like cigarettes are for us and they're not allowed to be advertised or promoted in anyway - not exactly the same I know, but same kind of ground.

At the end of the day, it’s a despicable exceptionally low quality food – no two ways about it
