Re: What hope do we have?!
It is difficult to change other opinions, or give advice to people who aren't interested. My mum feeds her dog on a ridiculously expensive Royal Canin clinical diet because the vet recommended it. £70 for a 14kg bag! He'd be much better off on Burns/Arden Grange but she won't listen and I can't be bothered telling her anymore.
In fact, out of principle, I would rather feed Wagg than Royal Canin, Pro Plan or Hills. These, to me, are the worst of the worst because they are advertised as premium and mislead many consumers to part with their money when they could be feeding a better diet for half the price. ![]() |

Yes, people can feed their dogs what they like, and it's important that a dog does well on whatever it is fed (regardless of whatever that may be). My argument is how cheaply the food is being sold. Lots of owners (not necessarily the type on here) don't look into ingredients of dog foods and will simply choose the cheapest food they can find - and at £1 a bag, they'll choose Wagg - completely unaware of how poor quality it is. Prices like that encourage people to buy it - by all means sell it, but not so stupidly cheap that it actually encourages people to use it. It's awful stuff, and anybody can see that surely. Of course a loving home and being fed is better than a dog being dumped, but if people can genuinely only afford to spend £1 on dog food then I seriously think they need to rethink whether a dog is the right pet for them - vet bills and insurance, toys, flea or worm preps, general equipment etc don't come cheap as I'm sure you are aware. I am not trying to make anybody feel bad for their choice of dog food - I'm just saying it's terrible awful food is being sold dirt cheap because obviously it will encourage the type who only buy food based on cost rather than quality, to continue using it rather than getting their dog on a decent diet (I am not talking about people who feed it because it's honestly all their dogs tum can tolerate or whatever).

Back to what I said earlier...

the pdsa are there for this exact reason! eta - in an ideal world then no people who can`t afford to pay for it all themselves wouldn`t have dogs BUT we`re not in an ideal world and there are too many dogs needing homes as it is to be picky about homes that would love them even though they`re on low incomes - sometimes the best homes are with people who don`t have much!!

Re: What hope do we have?!
I give up
![]() My point has largely been missed - I wasn't meaning to start discussions about the food or those wanting to feed it - I was just stating how we've no hope encouraging owners, who choose food on cost alone, to feed higher quality diets when Wagg is being sold for loose change. Although I'll stand by what I've said - Wagg IS an awful food, and after seeing first hand the affects a bad diet can have on a dogs health in later years (when they've seemed fine when younger) - my opinion on low grade dog foods will never change. Only one place for it IMO - and that's certainly not inside a dog ![]()

Re: What hope do we have?!
i think your key line there is what harm a bad diet CAN have...a lot of the time that`s not the case and these dogs live just as good a life as the ones on the higher quality food.
personally i don`t see the problem - you claim wagg is worse than pedigree but it really isn`t, the ingredients aren`t nearly as bad! not only that but this offer on wagg is coming at a time where people are struggling and a lot are considering giving their pet up due to that, the rescues are being inundated with the same calls constantly so if this offer even helps so much as a few dogs stay in their homes as the food is more affordable then i`m all for it! i couldn`t give a monkey what other people feed their dog so long as the dog is being looked after i do agree with you though that it`s not a great food, as i`ve said many times i wouldn`t feed it to mine
