Dog First Aid

I would like to put together a dog first aid kit to carry when we camp but need some help as to what to put in it? I'm a raw feeder and prefer to go for more natural remedies where possible.

Up to now I have:

bull nosed scissors
Liverine Unction
Thornit Canker Powder

Any ideas?

Re: Dog First Aid

sterile wipes, a small syringe for flushing wounds with clean water, a vetrap bandage. (buy a horse size one and cut it in half with a small hacksaw), tick remover, piriton tablets, hibiscrub. Also maybe an emergency muzzle.

Good list above and would add the following..........
Wound powder and vasaline. And a pair of tweezers. Having attended a K9 first aid course, I was shocked to learn how much damage a grass seed can cause. SO get them off the dog ASAP after being out.

Wound powder about £5 from vets.

Re: Dog First Aid

We always make sure there are some treats in ours for when they have been brave boys and girls. (bit like giving the kids a sweet) We find it really helps if they know there's something nice at the end of the treatment.

Re: Dog First Aid

I would also take pair of tweezers for thornes ect. also watched that vet program years ago with rolf harris and for ticks put vasalean on them as they breath through there bum????????? when they have hold so spread it on and they have to pull themselves out to breath rather than trying to pull them off and you can (apparently) leave there heads still imbedded if not carefull.

Re: Dog First Aid

Just to add - I always take a packet of Johnson's Diarrheoa tablets (or something similar) in case a change of water upsets their tums.
