Just wanted to say...

...those of you whose are struggling with young puppies and dogs kept at it. Zimba is nearly two and all the training and socialisation is now clicking, I saw people say the same thing here but I didn't believe them

We took Zimba out to the woods at the weekend and it was so nice to be comfortable with him politely greeting other dogs, taking no notice of mountain bikers, children running and wanting to stroke him, and laying down to let horses go by. Proud mummy moment

I won't deny there have been tears of frustration but I'm very proud. I still think socialisation, and not just with dogs, is one of the best things you can do for your dog.

Re: Just wanted to say...

Well done you and well done Zimba.

I think 2 is a bit of a golden age with my dogs where they start maturing and really listening.

I think with dogs you get out what you put in!

I love those proud Mummy moments!!!

Well done to you both

I've had a few problems with my second dog but it is so rewarding when all the hard work starts to pay off

Re: Just wanted to say...

Great post - good to hear it's all come together now.
It's hard to imagine it will sometimes , but with plenty of patience, consistancy and robust soliasation one day you realise it's worked.

Re: Just wanted to say...

10 months to wait for me Tummel calmed really suddenly in May, at the start of the week he was his loony, energetic self and then within a few days he was very calm, less loony(can't say he's ever going to be sane) and quite a bit more independant(used to be like a wee limpet).

I'm hoping by the time he's 2 he'll be very laid back when out on walks and get less excited about seeing new people and dogs(not saying he can't say hi...just that he won't try to jump on people and come away from dogs faster).

That's what I'm hoping for too!! To be fair Lily and Branston aren't bad at all considering they're only 8 months old, but I am looking forward to the day when the world is quite such an exciting place!! A little less drama everytime we meet a new person/animal/inanimate object would be great!!
