When should she start toileting after spay?

Hi everyone,

Kenzie was spayed yesterday and seems to be doing well - she's eating and drinking and is starting to move around, although the wound seems to hurt when she does.

I'm just wondering when she should start toileting again, and when to be concerned if she doesn't toilet?

Thanks

Do you mean pooping or weeing?? I think a phone call to the vet is the best thing to do.

Re: When should she start toileting after spay?

Poppy toiletted (both) the day following her spay.

She was uncomfortable walking around, as though her stitches were pulling so she'd just move a little bit then crouch near the ground (sorry, not a good description, I can picture it just not describe it ). She was given painkiller to bring home which we used for 3 days IIRC.

Did Kenzie have anything to eat yesterday when she came home? If she was starved from 6pm the night before her spay (as Poppy was) and had nothing yesterday then you probably wont get a poo until later today if she's had brekkie this morning. She should probably wee though as she's drinking.

If she has gone 24 hrs without a wee I would for your peace of mind phone the vet

Thanks, I'll try her again soon and then call the vets if she doesn't go I had heard it could take a while but she is drinking so I think she should be going!

Re: When should she start toileting after spay?

I called the vets and they said maybe it is because she's sore so to give her some of the painkiller (even though the bottle said not to start until tonight) and then if she still doesn't go to bring her in.

I think mine took ages after their spay. Even though they were set up in a pen with a puppy pad about 2 ft away!!
