Re: Boxers.....
I have a boxer, and had one for 12 years (Tia) before she died 2 days before the Christmas just gone. They are amazing dogs. Very loyal and friendly, not much of a barker (unless they're excited or someone is at the door) and are fantastic with kids and old people. It's like they have some kind of sixth sense that these are vulnerable people.
As others have said, they definitely love to fetch our gordon doesn't have a clue what to do with a ball, but Lola just instinctively knew lol. Ours have have never pulled on the lead (even the puppy) but we used to walk Tia in a slip lead. It wasn't really needed, but they can be very strong dogs when they want to be!I believe the name boxer came from the german word 'boxer' which translate as 'prize-fighter.' As these dogs were first bred as fighting/guard dogs, this name is most likely a term of endearment as how brilliant they were. They also use their chest (as well as their legs) to box other dogs (and toys lol). My mum's old boxer used to hit other dogs with his chest if they were being aggressive towards him. As for ailments, boxers for prone to heart problems, eye problems and tumours. Because their tails are so powerful, we were forever taking our old girl to the vet because she had wagged it against something hard and hurt it lol. Silly billy. As long as I live, I will never own any other breed than a boxer ![]() Pm me if you wanna know any more!
