What dog were you 'wrong' about?

I was after a Cavie and ended up with a Springer. I would never have wanted one and that would have been my loss, shes my once in a lifetime dog, and sooo biddable. Besides aren't all Springers Hyper
Theres Jay our rescue JRT, and Scruffy my rescue Terrier cross- whilst I love them both to pieces dont have a desire for another.
5 weeks ago a little wire haired Dachshund arrived for foster and I'm in love again. I must be mad , shes ignorant , naughty, chases my chickens and is generally a little sh*te- but is so funny she makes me laugh [nearly] all the time. I haven't broached the subject yet with OH but I'm really hoping she can stay
Anyone else ended up with a breed that wasn't on the agenda?

Re: What dog were you 'wrong' about?

We've always had Golden Retrievers while I was growing up and when we were looking for our second dog, we came really close to getting a GR bitch. Then one day in early May, my OH was walking Florence (our Lab) and a foster around the woods and found Louie! He's a little mix breed, quite terrier like and we would never have chosen him over a GR but wouldn't swop him for the world now. He's very biddable, very agile plus he's very easy to clean (one thing a GR could never be )

We will get a GR one day though

Re: What dog were you 'wrong' about?

we hadn't even thought about owning a dog until my friend had taken ill and needed someone to look after his for a wee while, he was ill for a brief time and passed away very quickly. we were lucky enough to keep his beloved max. max was 2 years old when we added him to our family. max is nearly 7years now, blue lurcher. terrific beastie. wouldn't part with him for all the tea in china.
when i lived with my mum/dad we mainly had border collies, they did have a gsd. so on adding max to the family i read everything i could about them, got introduced to a couple of people that owned lurchers, as we didn't know anything about that breed at all. what a lovely breed of beastie they are too.
oh sorry iv'e rambled.

(he does love his toys)

Re: What dog were you 'wrong' about?

When I got Hannah I was just after a Chihuahua crossbreed who could be a friend for Adam. She is more like 90% mini Dachshund then 50% though and I totally love the stubborn, cuddly, funny little moobag!!
Its why dog number 4 is going to be a mini Dachshund...

Re: What dog were you 'wrong' about?

Yes... I don't like jack russels (some of them are ok, when they are someone elses dog) and end up with Dixie who is half JRT but much much more than half personality wise she is so stubborn! Lol

I also did not want a staffy cross, I always wanted an EBT but I always said I did not want a staff or staff cross as they werent my thing, and then Dave's mum found her way to us and we have Dave.

Re: What dog were you 'wrong' about?

Our family always had labs or springers and I've always said I would never ever have a terrier! But now that I've had Bedlingtons, I can't imagine not having them, they are just such fantastic dogs, nothing like I thought they would be. Still against certain terriers like Westies and Scotties lol

Re: What dog were you 'wrong' about?

It never occurred to me to have a Dalmatian..... But at the rescue centre it was love at first sight and the finger of fate for Dallie number one..... Dalmatian number two was an educated choice

Re: What dog were you 'wrong' about?

I loved this mutt she was a great pyr crossed with a border collie. She was excellent in obedience, but one day she went crazy it happened in less than a minute she attacked my sheltie ending up in a 1000.00 dollar vet bill 6 inches of muscle out of her neck it was totally unprovoked I was right there. I got the sheltie stiched up and had the pyr cross PTS she was only 18 months old but I could not ever trust her again around kids or animals. I was sick to my stomach over it. The sheltie survived and died of other issues at 12 yrs old

Re: What dog were you 'wrong' about?

If you'd asked me 3 yrs ago i would never have even considered a Yorkie

I was originally looking for a male JRT but wasn't having any luck, saw an ad for Yorkie X's and just fell in love with one of the puppies pictured which is how i ended up with Louie.

Toby wasn't planned, He needed a home and just happened to be a Yorkie.

I would never be without a terrier of some sort, they are great little dogs
