Its why dog number 4 is going to be a mini Dachshund...
I would never in a million years 'wanted' a Daxie but its like having a puppy in the house some of the things she gets up to, definatly not an easy dog and shes bit 'dippy'.

Re: What dog were you 'wrong' about?

I always wanted another great dane as we had such a lovely time with Ruby. Just amazing dogs. But hubby said I could only have another dog if it was a GSD. Not a breed I have ever had any experience, not even in my list of favourites lol. But I love all dogs so if it had to be a GSD then so be it. I'm so in love with Anya, so much so we are planning a puppy play mate in the spring. I can't see me ever having anything else now.

Re: What dog were you 'wrong' about?

I went to Battersea dogs' home to get a SMALL rescue.
Preferably no bigger than a westie or something like that...

we came home with a german Shepard!
sometimes they choose us, we don't get to choose!

although having said that, Luci was like a small lapdog at heart.
bless her, she was so fussy about being clean.
after a muddy walk, she would wait at the door and not come in.
so i would have to carry the giant dog into the bathtub, and wash each of her paws and dry them.
then she would happily trot into the living room and settle down!

Re: What dog were you 'wrong' about?

Can I ask why you would not have no desire for another JRT/Terrier??

I adore JRT, have one myself and grew up with them, however my current one is nothing like the others and has tested every inch of my being in the last 7 years. Saying that I would not be without him and still adore JRT in general, think they are gorgeous dogs. Not sure if I would have the energy to do it all again however but never say never.

Just trying to think what breed I have been wrong about....

Re: What dog were you 'wrong' about?

My first dog - my friend's mum had to move somewhere she couldn't have pets, so I took her in - a mini schnauzer - brilliant dog

Then the rest were all rescues or strays so I never really thought much about the breeds (they were mostly crosses anyway!)

But this time we went for a rottie specifically (went to a rottweiler rescue) - my OH had doubts because he'd never really had a dog - but I'd had such a good experience with my last one that I couldn't think of another breed I'd want more (though we did consider staffies). Now we don't know what we'd do without her.

Re: What dog were you 'wrong' about?

I should mention (since my last post seemed a bit off topic) that my OH was wrong about getting a rottie - he was scared of them and quite unsure that he could handle one (though he's 6'1" and solid)

I had to convince him they are lovable softies - he now admits he was wrong and he loves her - she's daddy's girl

Re: What dog were you 'wrong' about?

I wasn't after a staff to be fair. WE were looking for a second dog, but staffs, although I think they are beautuiful, were never really a dog I wanted.

But we got Harvey, who is a staff cross with a LOT of staff in him or a full staff with very long legs, we don't know, but I'm glad we got him and now I doubt I'll ever get another dog that's not a rescue.

I dont think I have a valid reason Jay is a rescue, and always been difficult in some ways. She isn't very typical of the breed though, it sounds like you're talking about our dog there.

Re: What dog were you 'wrong' about?

I went into my puppy search looking for a lab as i'd grown up with them and for a first dog reckoned that would be a good idea...saw an advert for a labXridgeback, read up a little and went to meet him(ended up bringing him home the same day) as the owner said he was extremely lab like.

Now we know Tummel also has rottie in him and for the love of me the only lab in him is the fact he's black he's stubborn, mega playful, very protective of me, unbelieveably smart yet very stupid, loves all people and dogs and would rather run away than defend himself(different story if it's me needing protected) when attacked. He hasn't got an aggressive bone in his body, isn't overly interested in his food or toys and loves to chase butterflies

Tummel was much harder than i initially thought he would be but i wouldn't trade him for the world, i feel so proud when i go for walks and he behaves(didn't get solid recall until he was 8 months old...still has his off days though) and i love seeing him meet new dogs and still manage to come away when he realises i've kept walking and i love getting doggy cuddles from him

According to my OH our next puppy will be a dogue de bordeaux...i've already started my reading but for all i know he might change his mind and get something totally different(i doubt it as he's had his heart set on a DDB since last October).
