Kenzie's Home and a question

Kenzie's home after her spay and the poor girl is soooo dopey

The vet said the spay went perfectly and I'm happy it's all over She's sleeping it off at the moment - I don't think she's regained use of her muscles yet!

Oh and she's got internal stitches which surprised me as I was expecting external ones.

ETA a question - I know all dogs are different but when should I expect her to start walking up and moving?

Re: Kenzie's Home

Ahh bless her, glad it went, well such a relief when you get them home isn't it
Lily had internal stitches too.
Lily slept for about an hour after we got her home and then she was walking about but pretty dopey for the rest of that evening but by next morning she was pretty much back to her normal self, but like you say they're all different so dont worry if Kenzie takes a bit longer

Re: Kenzie's Home

Aw, I'm glad everything went well for little Kenzie

I was at work when Oscar got home from being neutered, OH picked him up around lunchtime and said he was really out of it for most of the afternoon, but by the time I got home from work he was pretty much awake and moving around. I think spaying is a bigger operation than neutering though, so that may effect how long Kenzie needs to sleep it off.

Re: Kenzie's Home

Big hugs to Kenzie, brave girl .

When Poppy was spayed she had two separate layers of internal stitches plus six or seven external stitches. The vet that did her operation likes to "make sure" everything is OK, bigger incision so she can have a good look round, etc. If the other vet had done it we were told her incision would have been only half the size. My friend's dog, a tiny Cavvie, had such a tiny incision and only two external stitches. Makes you wonder which is best .

We picked Poppy up at 4pm, got home at 5pm and she slept all evening and most of the next day. She eventually got back to her normal self about 4pm the day after her spay.

Kenzie will be back to normal before you know it.

Re: Kenzie's Home

Pleased it went well and Kenzie is home safe and sound. Heidi had external stitches and didnt wake much the same day.

Next couple of days she was pretty groggy and afraid to move. I had to pick her up and put her out for toilet. She would rush around the garden, belly low to the ground, do what she had to, look to be picked up, I would put her inside and she would do the same belly to the ground, rush back to her bed and not move till the next time.

She was spayed on a Monday and it wasnt until Thurs when OH came home from work that she perked up. Forgot herself and went to the door normally to great him. From then on she progressed in leaps and bounds (literally)

As mentioned, they all react differently and Heidi is a bit of a whimp - bless her

Re: Kenzie's Home

Oh great I'm glad it sounds like Kenzie's state is pretty normal. I haven't actually seen the incision site yet because I didn't want to disturb her, but the nurse said it's quite small. I've got some baby stretch-and-grows all ready for her so she doesn't lick it.

She's starting to look a bit less dopey now, she's got her eyes open and looks like she's actually seeing things rather than staring into space And she moved a little bit as well And she's starting to react to sounds a bit. I'm feeling much happier
