How long do you walk your adult dogs a day?

There was a thread on this I swear but I can't find it by searching

If anyone fancies answering anyway, how long do you walk your dog and what breed is your dog?

Rupert's a golden retriever and it varies as to what he gets. At the minute its about an hour in the morning and 20/30 mins in the evening. He seems OK with it but I feel like that's probably not enough in terms of time sometimes..? He plays with our other dog all day at home though...

Hoping this will help me clarify how much is an OK amount for him to get!

Re: How long do you walk your adult dogs a day?

10 minute walk but they have a good fetch session on the field that lasts around 5-10mins which tires them out

I have a Boxer cross and a Labrador.

But in this sort of heat they will be lucky to get a walk/run it's just too hot for them and for me.

Also if it helps Zeus is 5 and Milo is 2.

Re: How long do you walk your adult dogs a day?

Oscar (2 year old shih tzu) usually gets around 45 mins to an hour strolling the field in the morning, then a quick 10-20 mins around the block at night to do his wees, though in this weather, we've only managed to do a quick once around the field and he's done - he'll probably get a slightly longer walk than usual tonight when it's cooled down a bit

Re: How long do you walk your adult dogs a day?

Oscar is a 15 month old Bichon. On a weekday he gets about 15 minutes at 6:30am before we go to work, then an hour from the dog walker around lunchtime on Monday, Wednesday and Friday.

On Tuesday and Thursday he spends the day at my parents' in law's house, where he gets a short walk when he first arrives - 15 mins or so - then sometimes gets one walk of about an hour in the afternoon, or sometimes gets several more short walks throughout the day, depending on the weather and my mother in law's plans for the day. He also plays with MIL's dog on those days when they're in the house.

If the weather is okay (not pouring with rain or ridiculously hot) and he seems energetic he might get another 30 minutes or so on a weekday evening, but not always.

On the weekends it's more likely he'll only have one walk, but it will probably be an hour or more and we'll be around for the rest of the day playing with him in the house or garden as well.

Re: How long do you walk your adult dogs a day?

Depends on the weather at the moment. Usually 35-45mins lead walking in the morning followed by a bit of playing ball in the garden (too many deer around in the early mornings for the dogs to go charging round the fields!)

In the evenings it's usually an hour of off lead walks with a couple of other dogs but if it's hot then we take them swimming (so far no blue-green lgae where we are) for around 45mins.

Last Sunday they didn't get a walk at all in the day as it was too hot(couldn't go swimming as they'd just had an application of Frontline). We had a few training sessions in the garden & played 'find it' but stopped for chicken flavour ice cubes when Roxy started panting

Biscuit is a mini goldendoodle. She gets an hour, or hour and a half in the morning, one or two ten minutes walks in the afternoon and then usually another hour in the evening. The temperatures have been extremely hot this summer though so we have to get outside before 9am or after dark. I watch to make sure she's not overheating.

Zac has 45 mins in the morning and 45 mins in the evening on weekdays. On sat he has about 30 mins in the morning, then we are at agility training for an hour at lunch time, in the evening he'll have about 30 mins again. Sunday is lazy day and we just have one big walk of about 1 1/2 hours. Zac is a 6 year old terrier mixture.

Henry is a working cocker spaniel - 3 years. We do about an hour and a quarter around 8.30am and then another walk of about 45 minutes, either late afternoon (if it's cool enough) or more recently, during the evening. Both walks are mainly off-lead in woods and fields, etc.

Re: How long do you walk your adult dogs a day?

It depends where we are. IF we're on the farm Tummel will usually get 2/3 30 minute walks depending on the weather(if it's raining he pretends to be sleepy so he doesn't get the middle walk ) and we also do 2 quick training sessions and about 20 minutes play throughout the day, when my OH gets home they usually have a 15 minute wrestle

If i'm in Pittenweem Tummels need for exercise grows and i'm usually out for an hour in the morning and evening and then another 30-45 minute walk in the middle of the day, plus having the door open for garden access all day, 3 training sessions and loads of random play He gets dead excited in Pittenweem(i think it's because the cat gets him all riled up then chases him and my mum is always giving him fuss but even when i'm house sitting he's convinced my mum is hiding somewhere).

Tummels a 14 month old labxridgebackxrottie so needs a fair bit of exercise but i think he's actually really lazy as he just loves to sleep all day, in this heat we don't go out for a walk but i like to let him have some time in the garden to sunbathe Most of his walks are offlead

If it helps goldenshadow i know a lady with 2 goldies who get 2 45 minute offlead walks every day. The youngest goldie is 2.

Re: How long do you walk your adult dogs a day?

Florence (Chocolate Lab) and Louie get 3 hours a day, normally 1 long walk and 1 shorter. They play in the garden with each other quite a lot as well. In this weather though I walk them early morning and in the evening so they probs don't get as much as they're used to.
