Angry This is a form of cruelty

I cant believe some people over the last 2 days I have seen so many running with there dogs at midday, yesterday I saw a man with a lab the poor animal was on its knees the jogger was running gulping water,I consider this a form of cruelty,my dogs main aim in this hot weather is to get under the bushes in the garden in the shade

Yes I agree I see so many people in town pottering about with their dogs following them, it's too hot for me and I love the sun

I do too! I think some people are just thoughtless and take their dogs out - regardless, but ya can bet ya bottom dollar that when it's raining, or cold, or windy, not as many dogs get their daily walks!

We do take ours out because we have access to a river and the dogs just play about in the water and there's plenty of shade along the banks too - we're lucky!

Re: This is a form of cruelty

Totally agree.

I live in a small seaside town which is heaving with visitors at the moment. There are a lot of caravan sites/self catering accommodation here so the dog population has exploded too.

When it's warm I walk Poppy (usually involves a visit to the beach too) early in the morning and then about 8pm. No way do I take her out during the hotter part of the day but the number of dogs being dragged around "'cos they're on holiday" is unbelievable and definitely cruel when we have warmer days. Poor dogs look so unhappy. And don't get me started on how some of these poor dogs are treated, yanked about, shouted at and hit if they dare to move a few inches away .

Yes I agree. My dogs only got 35 minutes walk this morning because even at 8.00am it was too hot and humid. They're lying in the house with two fans and a dehumidifier running full pelt.

I had a training class this afternoon which I have cancelled; much too hot to work dogs but most of them would have turned up....!! I don't know whether its ignorance or stupidity.

Re: This is a form of cruelty

Sadly where most people don't think to walk their dog most of the year and think the garden is sufficent, they see a boiling hot day as a perfect time to get out with the dog and make the most of the sunshine. Totally Unaware or even uncaring of the feelings of the dog

Re: This is a form of cruelty

We are still holding training classes, but ours are run between 7 and 9, and mainly outside, as it's too hot in the hall.

My OH is bringing Holls down next week for a week or two, and she'll just chill, and have her nice long walk in the evening We're fencing our back yard, so she can run around the garden than goes around the house, without us worrying she'll get out

Re: This is a form of cruelty

My dogs don't use back yard as a toilet I have to walk them. I walk them even in hot weather but walks are short. We try to walk in the shadow as well
I cannot image that because of weather I won't walk dogs, especially if they get used to be walk every 4h

Mine also go for a short walk as I would get no peace but to jog with dogs in this weather is so cruel they are on leads so have no option than to keep going
