Not every single person. For me it is like locking toilet only because is hot and smell is bad. Could you stand it?
Walking dogs in any extremal weather should be a balance. Yesterday I walked my client dog, usually we play with a ball I had that intention but I thought I can't rise my hand without hot shower on my back so how poor dog supposed to chase it?

Dogs are better off being walked either at night or early morning or at least taken to a forest or woodlands where there is plenty of shade along with plenty of water for them to drink.

Re: This is a form of cruelty

Hmm, I 've still been taking Mia out at lunch time or early afternoon for short offlead walks (15mins ish). She's never been that bad with heat though, although she is black she has a really short coat and when we visit my parents she loves to lie in front of the fire or sunbathe in the conservatory (hottest room in the house). She seems to still really enjoy her walks... she mostly just has a gentle stroll, relieves herself and chases the odd rabbit or has a quick play with the odd dog. Then we pop in the car and are back home in 5mins where she can have some water. I think moderation is key and knowing the signs that your own dog gives off, you should be able to tell if they are distressed.

Re: This is a form of cruelty

I've been taking Alfie out at 5am, and 8pm. Took the temp in my garden today, and it was 34c. No way would i walk any dog in that, the tarmac is bubbling and sticky in places its so hot.

I wont walk in anything over 25c, and even then that has to be mostly in the shade.

Was chatting to the vets receptionist this morning, and they've treated 5 dogs for heatstroke this week, and one died.

People will always do what suits them though, rather than their dogs. A short 5 min stroll is one thing, a full walk or jogging, quite another.
CarolineH and Andromeda like this.

Exactly. Pavements and roads can get boiling hot in summer yet people make their dogs walk on them or stand there whilst they chat to others! I did suggest to one woman that she try wearing a woolly jumper and trousers but have bare feet on hot tarmac whilst someone else stood ignoring her with a bottle of water to for them to swig whilst she had nothing. Answer? "Oh yeah.. Never thought of that..." Duh! People can be so thick!!!!
