Dog Bite!

Just been bit by a Boxer that was going for Samson! It was the same dog that bit Sammy when he was a little pup. Couldnt believe it jumped over its front wall ran across the road jumped on top of our front wall and bit me as i was trying to protect Samson..

Do i need a tetnus jab or will it be ok?

Re: Dog Bite!

Ouch

If you have had less that 5 tetanus shots in your life time and the dog has broken the skin where it bit you you need a tetanus. If the skin is punctured you will probably need antibiotics too.

Re: Dog Bite!

If it's drawn blood and you haven't had a tetanus jab in the last ten years then yes. I would also report this incident to the police and maybe the bl*ddy stupid owner will keep the dog in a safe place instead of letting it jump the wall and attack other dogs, owners too. People like this make me sick I mean it aint hard keeping a dog in it's own garden, i've got six and never has one got out in over seven years!

Just asked my daughter who's an A&E nurse and she said that's right unless you've had five in your lifetime then you won't need one ever again.

Re: Dog Bite!

You may need one, depends hw long ago you last hd one. you may also need antibiotics, Keep flushing out the wound cooled boiled water with salt disolved in it would do if you have no antiseptic wash. You may find you start to get redness and it starts to swell. Obviously if its deep you my need it stitched, although when I had a bad dog bite, they put me on antibiotics and gave them a chance to work and kill any infection, then a few days later excised it and stiched it then.

Re: Dog Bite!

Its drawn blood and the area seems to have gone a little hard even though the bite wasnt that deep..probably a mm deep

Not gonna report the incident though as i had a word with the owner and told him she need to be muzzled. He was very apologetic. I was only worried for Sammy as he would have got mauled by her..he is a lover not a fighter lol

I think the last time i had a tetanus jab was back in school lol about 15 odd years ago lol

Re: Dog Bite!

Tell the owner to fix their garden so the dog cant get out too.
A muzzle wont help againest a car if it decides to run across the road again.

eek - i would NOT do this; if U do have serious health problems, there is then NO RECORD of the bite,
& they will carry no liability for Ur treatment, loss of income, etc.

please DO TELL THE DOCS it was a dogbite - a woman in California died last year, after she lied
to the doctor about the injury on her thumb - she claimed she got it gardening, that a trowel
had cut her thumb under the nail. she developed a massive infection & died at home less than 48-hours later -
her neighbor found her, or rather saw her, collapsed inside her greenhouse, and the ambulance crew
declared her dead at the scene.

antibiotics for dog-bites or cat-bites can vary, & worries about SOIL organisms are quite different -
it's important to tell the docs the absolute truth to have a good prognosis.

i hope it heals soon, with minimal pain - but do get it seen, so it's examined, cleaned & dressed properly.
