...or am I chatting rubbish as usual?
Well my game is for my ball obsessed Dottie who I currently walk on a harness and Flexi-lead. She loves a good game of fetch but it can be a bit tedious at times and get a bit dull. (Well for me anyway!) we are also limited with the length she can run (because of the line)
So I (think!) I have invented a new game...great for dogs restricted on leads...
Upside Down Fetch!
Well it kinda is....basically, I get Dottie to sit (and click) wait...and then I chuck the ball up in the air directly above us and Dottie has to try and catch it (normally on the second bounce) or she hits it with her nose and chases it round!
I think it keeps her brain going too as she's concentrating on where the ball is going to land and I incorporate Clicker Training into it too, for sit, wait, drop etc.
I think its working as Dottie now drops the ball for me and lets me take it to throw it up again, where as before I had to have another ball to trade with.
It burns up energy and she never knows where the ball is going to land!
Now have I invented a great game? Or do you guys normally play this with your dogs?
In order for the game to work well, you do have to jump off the ground and look a fool when throwing it. Saying "Woohoo!" is optional
I found an old tennis ball down the field (these moments are highlights in my mad-dog loving/walking world) and at first Dottie didn't care for it, but after a few rounds of Upside Down Fetch, she loved the ball and carried it all the way home!
Whatdya think?
