Re: Need help with getting puppy

Thanks for all the advice. Will have a look on the Kennel Club website and see what I find. I know the pup must certainly come from health tested parents which I thought anyway so something to look out for and remember. Thanks again

Re: Need help with getting puppy

I'd be more than happy to help you look through different breeders close to your location to see if we can find a pup for you. Someone's already posted the link to Swarthy's Lab Health, which is brilliant and gives a full explanation of the sort of things you need to ask a breeder. The basics you need to see in place are Hip Scores, Elbow Grades, BVA Eye Cert, PRA and CNM status, and some would also want to see EIC status although that's a fairly new and contentious one.

If you give me an idea of where you are other than just South East (pm me if you like) I'll see if I know of anyone with any litters due, although tbh, if you're looking to buy a pup to bring home in September, you may have left it a little late, but you never know!

Re: Need help with getting puppy

Thanks for that SL. I had a quick look at the link on the lab health website and read some of those sad stories about those poor dogs I'll go back and have a proer look at it later.

We are in Essex but happy to travel up to a few of hours for the right pup if need be. We aren't in a rush as such to get a puppy, I only said the end of September as we will be back from holiday and the kids back and settled at school by then so will have the time for a puppy. If you know of anyone that would be great thanks

Re: Need help with getting puppy

Do you have any preference for type or colour? If you like working bred Labs, they tend to be mostly black and yellow, with a smattering of chocolate thrown in, there's more of a wider choice with show/pet bred, where chocolates tend to be more popular.
