Re: Blue Green Algae Mention BBC1 after Local News (soon)

I wondered about it as well after reading the post and found this: Test using a stick whether the algae is a solid mass that can be lifted out of the water. If strands of algae remain on the stick, the algae is harmless filamentous algae; but if the algae disperses into particles when you touch it with the stick, it is probably blue-green algae.

Now I didn't know or hear of that anywhere!

The algae we have, it would come out on your hand if you put your hand in, a few bits so I guess that might be blue green??

I tend to let him go in the water if there is no algae within the area he is swimming and the water is crystal clear. Does the blue green change the actual colour of the water do you know, I thought it did but not so sure now

where we walk piper at the moment the lakes are full of algae and are stinking too. Normally she drinks the water when tired but i have now started carrying a bottle of water and small bowl with me so she has that instead. Been getting some very funny looks!

I always carry water on a warm day just to be safe.

What with the algae and anti freeze being added to puddles I feel it's far safer discouraging Heidi from drinking anything other than the water I carry.D

I always carry a bottle of water for Henry - at least from Spring right through until late Autumn. This way he never drinks from puddles or streams.
