Fleas - doesn't the word just make you want to scratch?

We came back from a week in Somerset on Friday and seem to have brought a circusful of fleas back with us. Sorrel loved the big shaggy fireside rug but I think it was infested and when I groomed her on Saturday I saw a few of these 'lovely' little creatures skittering about.

Have never seen fleas before (our first ever dog) and I thought they were some sort of extremely fast tiny beetle, especialy as we have been using the flea treatment every 4 weeks, then I managed to catch one - and it JUMPED - Yuk!

We had been using Stronghold all the time and no problem but because of being in the country with deer, sheep and ticks I swapped to Prac-tic for the hols.

Took her to the vets yesterday to swap the treatment back to Stronghold and gave her a dose last night, then vacuumed, washed all bed, bedding, toys, towels etc and sprayed with Indorex. She usually sits on my knee most mornings but the thought of all these little things on her is giving me the willies so she only came up for 10 mins.

Did a mini groom this morning and they are still there so I hope the Stronghold kicks in quick and zaps them all. Poor soul is biting at the base of her tail and not looking at all happy.

I normally think all creatures have their place and use on this earth but I make an exception for fleas - uggggh!!

Re: Fleas - doesn't the word just make you want to scratch?

My OH freaked out a bit this weekend when something small and black scurried across Izzy's bed but it didn't look like a flea to me so fingers crossed she's still flea free! Having said that, trying to spot them on a black lab is probably quite difficult!

Fleas are up there with Spiders as having no real place on this planet! (before any smarta$$e$ come along, I know what you're going to say, and I don't care!)

Oh, they are horrible resilient little buggers!!

They are so hard to kill - you might want to make sure you treat your rugs/carpets, furniture, and anywhere the dog's been.

I knew a guy once with a lovely GSD but he got fleas and infested the entire flat - I went over and ended up with flea-bitten ankles -ouch!!!

We ended up having to flea-bomb the whole place. But hopefully yours aren't that bad. Good luck!
