fear of the pavement
We live on a fairly main road, and when we first started taking Izzy on walks we would go round the block which was 1/2 on the main road and 1/2 on a quiet back street, and while she was a bit unsure of all the cars whizzing past she still walked with us (with a little food-based encouragement!) However she soon seemed to develop a fear of going onto the main road, and wouldn't even walk out the front door. We currently drive her to a local park and she walks brilliantly there, and when we go visit the folks she walks fine on the quieter roads near their houses.
I thought it was because there are constantly cars going past that she doesn't like, because she tends to ignore the occasional car driving past when we're on a quieter road. So this morning I thought I'd bring her out again while it was quiet to see whether she's improved. She hopped straight out the front door, got halfway down the path before turning around sharpish and pulling to go back inside. This is normally what happens but this time there was not a single car around!
Is it possible that she's just decided that the main road is scary regardless of whether any cars are going past? If so, any advice on helping her get over it? I managed to get her to go down the path, 10m along the main road and back up the driveway twice using a spoon smeared in peanut butter, but I was wondering if anyone else has experienced anything like this and has any other suggestions!
