preloved site

What are your opions of the preloved site ? My friend is looking for a smooth mini dachs ( our breeder that we got Rocco from died a few years ago) and has been looking at the KC puppy section with no luck and has mentioned the preloved site to me - I hadnt heard of it before and have had a look but not sure. Has anyone got any opinions or ideas where to look.

Re: preloved site

Bad idea stay far away from it as possibly, only puppy mill breeders and backyard breeders sell on there.

Going through the Kennel club is the best way.

Re: preloved site

I wouldn't go the preloved route unless looking to rescue one of the 'free to a good home' dogs.

They're pretty much all bybs, massively overcharging for mediocre breeding at best.

Surely the Dachs breed club would have a list of reputable breeders?

Re: preloved site

hate it with a passion, i don`t trust people on it which is really sad as there are a lot of genuine people on preloved but once bitten twice shy so to speak. would avoid preloved like the plague, kc accredited breeder is a better place to look although can still get some 'bad ones' slip through, not anywhere near as common as on preloved though

eta - i wouldn`t touch the free to good home dogs on preloved, that`s the main reason i hate the site and i don`t trust any seller on their reasons behind rehoming the dog. not after my baby banjo

Re: preloved site

Don't use it! Like people have already said, its just full of crap breeders wanting to make a quick buck or get rid of their 'accidental' litter.

Go to the Daschund Breed Club and ask for the names of some good breeders in your area. Or there may be a breed rescue with a dog waiting there for your friend

Re: preloved site

Thanks Springerhuskey - we had been looking in the puppies available page, didnt realise that there was a breeder section ( I dont have blonde moments its sodding hours -lol) anyways she has rang the lady thats the acredited breeder and what a result - she is having a mating on Sat so a pup could be available just before xmas.

The breeder couldnt have been more nicer - she invited her up to meet the dogs with no pressure to have a intended pup - I can see that I will be tagging along

I had never heard of preloved and was a bit doubtful when I was looking through the adverts, I couldnt believe what some people had crossed dogs my mind was boggling

Re: preloved site

aww that's great!

Good luck with the meeting, i'm sure it will go really well

just remind your friend not to let her heart rule her head where the thought and excitement of a cute future pup is concerned. If there's anything she doesn't like about the breeder then keep looking. It might be a good idea for you to go along because you can sit back and look at it more logically, it's only natural to not notice things you don't want to notice because the thought of meeting the cute breeding dogs is greater than the non fluffy stuff like health tests, breeding environment, ethics.

Not to be a bore but it's so hard to find a good breeder and it'd be nice if your friend can get it right after realising that Preloved isn't good!

Also just beware of how strict the breeder is - i'd imagine they will have to be extra vigilant with a litter due at xmas time and watch out for those trying to buy a present, so do expect the '20 questions' approach

I wouldn't agree that they were all backyard breeders. I have been speaking to some top breeders with KC registered litters and Crufts champions who also advertise their litters on their. They are respectable caring breeders who vet and screen the new owners
It 's like with anything, so long as you are careful and shop around many sites can have something for everyone!

i agree, there are a few genuine people on there but it`s a matter of weeding through and being able to read through the lines. jake`s breeder did advertise on preloved, however, i found her through my vet who had recommended her to me as i`d never had looked on preloved for a puppy. doesn`t make her a bad breeder but just personally i would never use preloved again as it`s so hard to tell the good from the bad sometimes!
