Re: Dog getting up at 3am

Mine can wake twice in the night. Its really fustrating as i don't want to lock them in the kitchen but i also don't want them feeling uncomfortable if they need a wee.

Re: Dog getting up at 3am

Does she go for a poo before going to bed?

Mine get fed at 6pm, but then let out at 10pm before i go to bed, and they go for a wee and a poo. To begin with I remember waiting an hour for one to go, but alot of patience and encouragement and it works over time.
Gemmaa and Tarnus like this.

Re: Dog getting up at 3am

When you let her out do you make any fuss? If you are doing any kind of rewarding behaviour (praise, treats or even any attention at all) then she might be starting to think that getting you up is ok, or even fun! Simplest solution in that case is to just walk over, let her out and get her back in without looking at her or talking to her!

Depending on how much of a risk taker you are, you could try and just ignore her once and see what happens. If she's well house trained she might not be desperate and once she realises she isn't going to be let out she might go back to sleep. OR you might come down to a big steaming pile of good-morning the next day!

As P&CM says, does she go poo before bed? Izzy always goes out around 10:30-11pm for a wee, and if she hasn't done one that evening I make her wait outside until she's done a poo, no matter how many times she makes a break for her bed!

Finally, if this is happening regularly then maybe it's worth a trip to the vets just in case something is causing this sudden change in routine!

If this is turning into a regular thing then it could possibly be something medical causing her to lose her ability to hold it in?

Re: Dog getting up at 3am

No idea why!
But Ace woke me at about 4am this morning, I am a light sleeper and heard him get up and stagger toward the door... I woke up , jumped out of bed and raced to get the door open before any accidents happened lol
I think my panic scared him, but I was adament we wouldnt be having any accidents at all

He went for his evening walk about 7.30pm and he also went out for a loo break at midnight. So not sure why he needed to go ... I can only guess he had more water yesterday due to the heat, so his bladder was fuller than normal ?
