To go to training class or not, need to decide in 30 mins!

Asked a few people about training classes and one got back to me today. His next lot of classes are beginning tonight, they are 12 weeks long and its £100 for the course which is non refundable it says on the website.

Its quite short notice and I'm a bit like what do I do...

He looks OK and a few I have contacted round here have been on the dominance brigade this guy seeeeeems more open. I suppose even if I go tonight with a cheque for £100, if its rubbish I can always say here's £20 that's your lot we wont come back

I don't know if I should just go watch today because it might be general sorting out aims/goals etc so be useful to go, but I don't want to go somewhere pants either as its an impulse decision...

Doesn't say a huge amount but the chap said take Roo to the advanced class which looks good and as though it could really help with his chasey behaviour..?

Class starts at 8pm but he does one before so I'm guessing he'll not be home by just before 6pm...

It doesnt say that he is an APDT registered instructor - that would put me off ohh he does says hes a qualifed instructor, but under what? and then says he is recommend by the RSPCA..

You might aswell go, see what its like and if you dont like it, dont stick around

I admit, I have no idea what that means, at all..!

Another big issue I have is Rupert doesn't have his boosters because of his skin issues. A lot of places have booking forms with 'booster date' and when asked said they wont take us even if I titre test him

This guy doesn't have an issue with boosters...

I went to a gundog trainer who was real good and has won with lots of his dogs, I don't think he was APDT registered

I can't comment on the classes, but if it was me-I'd go tonight see what it's like and then make a decision as to whether you want to stay or not. (like your idea of taking a cheque for £100, but giving him £20 for tonight if you don't like it.)

Lol yeah I've not asked him about that but I'm not gonna leave a cheque for £100 if I hate it am I think the bank let you cancel them for £12.50 so I could just give it him then cancel it later haha

I bet I sound really horrible saying that, and the fact YAY he doesn't care about boosters too

Its just hard as hardly anyone round here will take us with no up to date boosters He had his puppy and one year old ones, he's 3 in August and missed his 2YO ones with his 3YO ones due in Oct...

I am a bit tempted to go along but then I'm like am I just going to bugger myself over etc..!

My dad always says: If in doubt, leave it out!

I generally live by this rule!

Good luck whatever you decide

Re: To go to training class or not, need to decide in 30 mins!

I soooooo don't know what to do...Thing is I know if I go I will find it hard not to sign up for it etc and be even more on the fence so if I do go we will probably pay £100 and be there for 12 weeks regardless of how I find it

Re: To go to training class or not, need to decide in 30 mins!

The exercises seem to be loosely based on competitive obedience classes ie A recall - retrieve with finish, etc.

I've just had a look in some show catalogues to see if he or his wife compete but it appears not.

Personally I'd go and watch tonight.

There are two KC registered dog training clubs in that area - Halstead DTC and Great Baddow DTC.

Halstead is a bit far out for me, and I *think* I've asked the Great Baddow one and been told no (or it was one in that area, I will do another google...).
