Re: No insurance £6485

My rescue dog, in one year, cost £18,000.00 yes, eighteen thousand pounds. He spent 10 months at Fitzpatrick referrals with spinal and neck surgery, two operations, recouperating, x-rays, mri scans. Would I swap him for anything - not a chance, he's wonderful and I don't begrudge a single penny. I'd go hungry to keep my dogs happy - and I have done in the past !!!

He is as fit as a flea today and as happy as any other 2 year old Rottie.

Re: No insurance £6485

I can join the club with £8,000 I owe to Fitzpatrick Referrals and £700 I owe to my own vet.

Argos have refused to pay for Flynn's second hip replacement despite telling me by phone last year that he was covered and to go ahead and get it done - so that's going through a complaints procedure at the mo which i'm hoping will go in my favour because they have that call recorded.

Noel is waiting for his money and as Flynn had to have two ops this time because the first dislocated it was much more expensive. My other vet bill is for Flynn's recovery and all the medication since the dislocation.

Wonderful place to take your pets though if they ever need ortho surgery, Noel and the team are second to none IMO. Glad to hear your dog is okay now and I thought I had it bad with Flynn and this last three months, goodness knows what you went through.

Re: No insurance £6485

I'm in the club too

Although most of ours is on insurance - Harvey £6,500 in 2 years, Bruno around £4,000 this year. These are both our dogs who are insured but Harvey has used up all his insurance now.

We lost 3 cats to cancer this year which cost around £2,000 and then last year Bug had pyothorax which was another £3,000.

As has been said though, I wouldn't change any of my pets at all (well, apart from make them well).

Actually, this prompts me to get off my backside and get our latest resident insured!

Have seen some sights while going there, dogs so much worse off than Flynn and he was bad enough. Don't want to see another sling for the rest of my life though, but have kept Flynn's one just in case I ever need it, keep it tucked safely away!

Re: No insurance £6485

It's payouts like this that always make me fume at the people who say that they'll just put money away into a separate account each month because it's better than insurance. How many people have £6,500 'put away'?

I've paid out a few thou myself on a mini dachshund who wasn't insured because he needed specialist treatment at Bristol University Vet school. Yes, it's worth every penny and, no, I don't begrudge it - but I do wish he'd been insured!!

Albert if someone takes on oldies there is no way you can get them insured I tested it on my 12year sheltie 1 insurance company would take her this insurance company is known for wriggling out of claims it would have been £78 per month plus £130 excess plus 35% of any treatment

Taking on a 12 year old is a very high risk thing to do. So I'm not surprised you had a problem. But it's the people who are getting a puppy or kitten that I was thinking of. Time and again I see "Insurance is a waste of money - I'll put £20 away each month into a savings account". How many months worth do you have to have put away to pay out £6,500? And what happens when you need that £6,500 in month 2?
