Just adopted a second dog

We went to manchester dogs home this morning and found a lovelly 10 month old sprollie (he was a stray). we took max with us and they seemed to get along fine.

they were fine in the car together on the way home.

they were ok in the house aswell.

however i think max is annoyed with the new arrivel. he ignores him in the house but outside on walks fine..

few questtion .

we dont want to leave the 2 dogs together when we go out untill they get to know each other more.

new pup hates beeing left in room on his own. constantly wimpers. how can we resolve this. i know he needs to get use to it.

we have degus and new pup is obsessed with them therfore has to be on a lead in front room so he cant harrass them.

new pup has realised there is a dining table and likes to jump up on it. how can we teach him not to.

Re: Just adopted a second dog

They need a bit of time to learn to trust each other and share the home environment. It will get better. I would move the Degus into another room he doesn't have access to for now and work on his training before you re-introduce them.

My new dog did not like being left alone and the first two nights she howled the house down but last night was the fifth night and there was just a little whimper and then she went to sleep.

My two and her avoided each other in the house until this morning. They will work it out, it just takes time.

Re: Just adopted a second dog

Hi
Give it time hun, you say he ignores him? that may not be such a bad thing, avoidance is better than aggression. When i got my 2nd dog, Molly my 1st wouldnt even look at him......now they sleep together, just takes time.

The crying can be bad and heartbreaking i know....just keep leaving him for a while and then go back, and repeat it. You will get good advice on here, better than mine i slept with mine when they were small.... not good LOL xx

Enjoy you new addition xx

When we had our 2nd pup we put her in a crate with her basket, bowels and toys in our large utility where our other dog sleeps, and he used to lie next to the crate. When we wer in we would leave them out together and gradually increase the time they were left alone. They are now inseparable and the older one pined when we took the pup for her jabs and was overjoyed when she got back !!!

Re: Just adopted a second dog

we i was worrying before if we had done the right for max and i was working myself up, dont help its that time of the month lol TMI

all is currently calm at the minute they are both asleep lol

im off work tomorrow which is good

we have moved the gerbils upstairs as that is the room were going to put Ben when were out/asleep. (it does have the dining table in though

hes not as bad with the degus aslong as we dont let him get fixated watching them. (which is hard to distract him when he doesnt know his name yet ) he only had a number .

he occasional will bark at them (think play bark) so we remove him out of the room. is this the right thing to do ?

He has lernt to sit and is getting better at it.

curently Max is asleep on the setee next to us and Ben is asleep at my feet.

can anyone point me in the right direction for teaching how not not to jump up.
