Having to re-home Trixie :(

As you all know she has not got on with other dogs because of her nervousness (which we not told when we got her 18 months ago), well because of the unpredictability we having to re-home her.

I need to phone up the rescue and make an appointment. My dog behaviorist phoned the rescue and explained everything so they understand and they have said it will take as long as it take's to help her.

I am NOT doing this lightly at all but because she needs consistency and also a non-stressful home and also a more mentality strong person then I am doing what is best for her. She has come on soooo much in the last 18 months but I think she needs a calmer environment and also someone who has NO other commitments other than her.

The behaviorist is still considering me for fostering and re-homing another dog in the future.

I am absolutely devastated by the decision and it is really breaking my heart that I can't keep or explain to her why she has to go. I am going to always miss her (I can't stop crying ). I hope that she ends up going to another lovely home.

Re: Having to re-home Trixie :(

I'm so sorry for you both.

I would hate to be in your shoes but it sounds like your behaviourist is in agreement with you if she is making the call to the rescue.

That is one of the toughest decisions and I totally believe its not one you have made lightly!!!

Re: Having to re-home Trixie :(

I cannot believe you forced her to live with the Bassetts all that time under such stress only to re-home her after they've gone home. If you were re-homing her because you were ill or she didn't get on with another dog you had first I could offer some sympathy but as it's because the dog you have is not the dog you wanted her to be it really narks me off.

Why did you make her live with those other dogs for so long and then decide to re-home her now? If she's nervous around other dogs and all her hair fell out due to stress of living with just two dogs, how can you or your behaviourist think living in kennels is going to be the best thing for her.

It just screams throw away society to me.

Re: Having to re-home Trixie :(

I can't help agreeing with Metaldog to be honest. I think this could really have been a totally avoidable outcome for Trixie

I think I made my views known at the beginning when the Bassetts came on the scene and poor Trixie was forced to wear a muzzle and was practically climbing the walls in distress, in what was supposed to be her place of safety....her home.

I can't believe you're even talking about being kept on a list for fostering in the future and poor bloomin Trixie's not even gone yet!

I can't believe it....but sadly, i'm unsurprised.

This decision has been one of the hardest to make, but Trixie is very unpredictable, she will play with other dogs and be lovely and then something stresses so, and no we cant work out what and then she has her teeth in the nearest thing, yesterday another dog. Both were at the vets, both needed treatment. Three of us humans were covered in blood, there have been many many tears and some nice happy memories. I don't want her to go but i think it is what is best for her. You don't know our home situation and both mum and i have tried so hard to help her. She has come along way in the 18 months i have had her, but i don't seem to be able to help her with this and would hope that someone with more experience and time can give her the help she needs. I love her so much and the entire weekend has been tearful.

Just to reiterate this is the hardest thing i have to do.

Re: Having to re-home Trixie :(

Why have you got a dog that is know to be unpredictable with other dogs in a vet surgery, which is a very high stress environment, unmuzzled in the situation. That was totally avoidable.

I'm afraid the 'it's so hard for me' stuff won't wash with me.

Re: Having to re-home Trixie :(

I wonder why poor Trixie is "unpredictable"....

A tearful weekend? Poor Trixie's had months of "tearful weekends" no doubt.

I really don't think you have the right to speak to anyone like that, you have know idea about the whole situation, people like you drive me mad.

My heart goes out to them having to make such a hard decision, I hope that Trixie will find a new home soon.

Re: Having to re-home Trixie :(

Having had staffs and one was dog aggressive... When out and about you have to keep control of your dog.. You have to make sure if you have an unpredictable dog that you keep it under full control at all times.. Many people have dogs that are not sociable with other dogs and manage to get by..

My Bob is not keen on some dogs.. I do everything in my power to prevent any unwanted instances.. And also this prevents the problem from escalating.. I can't help thinking that maybe forces them bassets onto Trixe is what has caused this..

But I guess at the end of the day we don't know anything about your set up.. Only what you have told us
