Angry Plagued by cats!

For some reason, the neighbour's cats seem to see our garden as a litter box. Now, I'm not much of a cat person (sorry to all those who are!) and Jazz absolutely hates them and goes mad if they either come into the garden or sit on the fence.

So, my question to anyone who can help is - how do you keep cats from pooing all over the garden?

Thanks

Re: Plagued by cats!

Concrete or deck over all the flower beds and just have patio pots.

Seriously, I know how you feel. It's so annoying isn't it? I'm sure if my dog pooped in other peoples gardens they wouldn't be very happy about it but it's ok for their cat to poop where ever it likes

Re: Plagued by cats!

there are sprays which are supposed to deter cats and you can get electronic posts that let off a high pitched sound to scare them off. hanging old cds from bushes is also supposed to be a deterrent.
My problem is with foxes pooing in my garden

Re: Plagued by cats!

You can get a plant called 'Scaredy Cat'. Not sure how effective they are though.

I keep our border out the front wet as they don't seem to like it. I also sprinkle chicken poo pellets out there, but that's not overly practical with a dog.
When I see the cat out there I try and throw water on it, (cat owners please save your anger, I truly don't care).

Loads of citronella things, pigeon strips, or failing that just let the dog out.

I feel your pain though, I put my hand straight in a big, wet piece of cat poo when I was pulling some old plants out & one of them is almost always sitting under the trees trying to catch the birds.

Re: Plagued by cats!

Get your own cat! Or a water pistol (water is better than a lot of things).

To be honest, the cat poo in my garden is from my cats as they can't really get out (well 2 can't) so i am not too bothered. Any gardening is always done with gloves on.

Smile Re: Plagued by cats!

Sorry I'm not much help, but if you post this in the cat section some people might have a few ways/ideas of keeping cats out of gardens?

Arrow Re: Plagued by cats!

* cat-proof fencing, faced OUTWARD above the ordinary fence or wall.

* a Scarecrow attachment for the hose, which sprays a burst of water at moving things.

* repellent odors all along the upper fence, re-applied after rain.

* a live-trap, & send trespassing cats to the local shelter once caught.

* REMOVE all the cat-stools before the dog eats them; Toxo is only one common hazard in cat-poop.

* contact the local council & see if there are regulations which require cat-owners to keep Kitty at home.

Re: Plagued by cats!

What about something like this for your wall/fence:

Prikka Strip anti climb spikes - the cheap way to stop intruders climbing over your walls, gates and fences, or onto your flat roofs, etc

it's supposed to stop intruders from climbing the fence but it'll probably keep the cats from climbing too!

It's funny, there's loads of cats around here but we very rarely get them in my garden. The dogs usually chase them off so perhaps they've learned not to come here because there is nearly always at least 1 or 2 cats on my front street!

Hasn't been so bad since my neighbours got their female outdoor cat spayed it took them about 2 years and 2 litters of unwanted kittens to figure it out but I suppose they got there in the end! There used to just be cats everywhere (males i'm presuming) and the noise of them mating with her at night was just horrid. I used to cringe at it and it happened so regularly, i'm surprised there were only the two litters.

anyway, failing that - you could always try the more 'traditional' methods of putting marbles into the ground or hanging shiny things around. It's a shame you can't buy like motion sensor water spray things to frighten them off.... or perhaps you can? I don't know, maybe i've got an invention there!
