I just feel so sorry for Kyle cause it does seem as though he's not had the greatest of life and trust me no-one can make me feel any worse than what I do when I think about him leaving.. I can't bear it.. Cause I know he is a fantastic dog and I know we can provide him with the lover he truly deserves but with the other two in the house it just causes problems. Had we not had the Beddies I think it would of been far better for him, cause I honestly believe he needs a only dog home.
I do worry because we've spoke to a few rescues about our situation and I'm so scared that some might not think he's worth the effort as he is 5years old, he obviously has skin issues and seperation issues, female issues and requires constant training which we are working so hard with him with and he really is getting better I'm sure of of it, I'm just worried he could end up somewhere owned by some thug and ending up pts through no fault of his own..

I really believe I'm not the best owner for Kyle, which breaks my heart to say cause I'm always trying so hard with him, probably spoiling him too much.. He is definitely better with my OH but with everyone together is just gets too much..
This may be a little controversial because he does have a lot of issues which will make him hard to home/assess, but I would possibly not even go through rescue (well, not 'general' rescues - perhaps if you do find a Bullie rescue that can help then that would be better). I would find someone in the breed that you know is experienced with them and has the right kind of home on offer. Rescues are so full of bull breeds that they are a lot more harsh on them, sometimes only the 'cream of the crop' so to speak will make it to homes. Also, someone in the EBT breed is less likely to just be browsing rescues - I think you need to try and reach far and wide to find the best place for him, as he certainly seems to need somebody who is very experienced in Bullies.

You aren't the first person to have had a rescue dog not work out and you certainly won't be the last!

Oh, and it might just be worth checking - do the rescue have any policies which say you must return the dog to them? You don't want to be getting into trouble even if you are doing the right thing by him.

Re: Really Annoyed!!!

I can completely understand how you feel. When we bought Roxy home things were initially fine then all of asudden she started attacking Toby in the ecenings - it was awful as they were completey unprovoked.

Poor Toby would be asleep most of the time, it was never over food or toys, etc. She just seemed to seek him out then attack him. We also found that her notes were a load of bull, I think he last owner lied about everything. Unfirtunately when she was in the rescuce centre I think she just shut down so wasn't assessed properly.

I would agree with others & say that for some dogs it does take them longer to settle in, it did with Roxy. We were able to manage her behaviour with Toby, we saw a behaviourist (still do) who was able to give us lots of advice in getting the dogs to interact & how we could manage this.

Gradually were able to introduce play sessions, then get them to play with toys, have their kongs together, etc. It all took time & constant management but was worth it.

Tbh the rescue centres 'behaviourist' wasn't great & didn't really help us out. Have you been able to contact anyone & have them give you any advice?

Re: Really Annoyed!!!

We contacted the original centre, which was breed specific centre and we're told we needed to give it more time. It's not just with Suki, he seems to take a dislike to me at times, like I say he has bit for no reason and because everything we were told is bull**** we have no history of him, mean I doubt he'd mean to hurt me but I don't know. The breed specific rescues have been useless.. It was them who told us to just crate him..

Yes we are meant to return him to the original rescue but we've not given it long enough so they won't take him.

have they given any indication as to how long?

I know all rescues have different policies and things but if it really wasn't working out in the home & the owner wasn't happy then as a rescue i'd be willing to take the dog back fairly quickly. At the end of the day, you know his home situation better than them and you know in your heart if it's not going to work out - otherwise you wouldn't have written this thread and spent so long deliberating over it.

Re: Really Annoyed!!!

Nope, like I said they have been useless, they just left the dog here my OH tried to ask questions, but they were in a rush so everything was very quickly done and we never heard one word from them since, apart from us calling them!

I have a message left on the phone someone who might be able to help though I think she is in connection with the people who told me just to crate him and that worries me...
I just wish it had all worked out so much better than this. Or at least if we'd know the truth maybe we could of prevented some of this somehow, I don't know, it's all just extrememly upsetting.

Re: Really Annoyed!!!

Hey Miss Bexi,

No advice here but just so sorry to hear about the issues you have, we are sending hugs to you all, horrible situation to be in and I know you will have really considered all the options. Beau came to us as needing an only dog, child free home and although we have had visiting dogs and he loves them out of the home he get so stressed I don't think he could ever live with a dog.

Another thing to consider is the nature of Beddies, Beau is sweet and gorgeous but I have seen him kick off and it is scary, more than just normal dog 'handbags'.

thinking of you

Re: Really Annoyed!!!

This is such a horrible situation and I really feel for you. We fostered a schnauzer x last year who was also fine outside with Florence but as soon as we got them both inside the house she attacked Florence. It was terrifying but I HAD to put Florence first. Rang the rescue who told us to put the foster in the garage! Needless to say I haven't fostered for this rescue since as I cannot trust their 'evaluations' of dogs for foster.

At the end of the day the rescue has an ongoing responsibility to that dog while it is settling into it's new home. The original rescue should be taking responsibility for Kyle and getting him into a suitable home.

You have done your best for Kyle and please try not to feel guilty. It's not your fault that Kyle was placed into an unsuitable home.

Re: Really Annoyed!!!

Hi Beau's mummy,

There knew we have Bedlington Terriers, people think we're worried about Kyle killing them but I've seen Suki when she went for our first vet and had no-one grabbed her in time she'd of gotten the vet straight in the neck
We explained that we had two smallish dogs, who have both been previously attack and this was why we needed a good that was good with other which don't get me wrong he is outside but not in the home, I heard Suki and Kyle going at each other earlier between the baby gate and it was really sounding nasty.. It may of been for show I don't know but I cannot risk it, I love them all to pieces, including Kyle but I do have to put my other two first as awful as that sounds.
Thank you

Bearclub thanks, I cannot believe some of these rescues, I'm so glad it was my OH on the phone cause I think I'd of flipped out... I have to say I won't use the rescue again. We really wanted an EBT and instead of getting a puppy that we could of trained our way and introduced to the pups no problems we thought we'd get a rescue one as there are a lot in there at the moment. We have paperwork stating they would take the dog back but how long can I honestly leave it, do I wait until there has been a major fight between the dogs, or he's got so carried away that he causes more than a bite towards me..

I'm just glad that we've managed to help Kyle in some way, he's still very boisterous but he is learning, he is getting better on the lead, he's leaving things better and thankfully his skin is really improved so I know that much has been great but I just hate to think that he's sitting in the kitchen wondering why he isn't allowed into the living room with the others.. It's just sooo heart breaking..
