Sad to announce

Remember this from 6 weeks ago?

First there was Francis - now meet Tosh

unfortunately my brave old man has lost his fight. Tosh was pts yesterday. When I rescued him just 6 weeks ago, the dog warden told me to drive my car over to his kennel as he 'probably wont manage the walk to your car' - his first few days he was very wobbly as so underweight and no muscle at all.

in the 6 weeks I had him, he put on 4.5kg and had got so much better on his legs. He enjoyed his twice daily walk round the wood and 2 weeks ago ventured half way round the field as well. He always looked on when the other 3 went all the way round and I could see the longing in his eyes. Well on Monday, the determined old man managed to fulfill his ambition - he got all the way round but in doing so really buggered his legs up. He went downhill rapidly on Wednesday and sadly I made the decision to help him on his way to Rainbow Bridge. In the early hours of Thursday morning (1.20am - 2.00am) he wandered round the garden with me - and at one point looked out towards the wood behind my garden and I swear he was memorising it.

I hope he was happy the 6 weeks (all but a day) he was with me and that he knew he had finally found true love. I hope the last 6 weeks of his life made up for the fact his previous owners had callously dumped him and underfed him.

Although I still have 3 dogs in the house there is an emptiness where Tosh was.

I miss you so much little old man.

RIP from mom

Re: Sad to announce

So sorry to hear of your loss; it sounds as though your old fella had a fantastically happy time with you and will have gone to Rainbow Bridge feeling loved and secure.x.

Re: Sad to announce

I reckon he's just had the best 6 weeks of his 17 years with you and he'll be waiting at the bridge for you with a massive smile and a wagging tail!

RIP young man

Re: Sad to announce

aww what a shame he couldn't have been around that bit longer for you

Try not to feel sad about losing him, feel happy for the wonderful last few weeks you gave him, a proper good retirement home without your help he probably wouldn't have lasted as long as he did x

Re: Sad to announce

So sorry for your loss but what a wonderful last six weeks Tosh had with you. You must be very proud to have given this to him before he passed. Not easy for you now but think of how much happier he must have been with you rather than in a kennel and to end his spectacularly old life with the comforts of home - well done to you.

Run free at the bridge sweet Tosh where youth will be on your side once again. xxx

Re: Sad to announce

If I can cry like I am doing now over a dog that I only knew for 6 weeks - it scares me what I will be like when Chloe's time comes who I have had for 12 years, or worse when Soxie pony goes who I have had for 24 years.

I know he was happy here - his character had just started to come out. He was cheeky - trying to push to the front at tea time, trying to go a different route out on a walk and I would have to run to divert him.

When I came downstairs this morning, I automatically went to the mattress in the living room to check on him - and of course it was an empty space.

I think he knew on Monday that he hadnt got long left and that is why he was so determined to fulfill his ambition and get round that field.

Wish he had fulfilled my ambition of seeing him wag his tail - just once.

Vet tells me that he had nerve damage and that his tail would never have wagged.

How could someone let him get in that state.

6 weeks with me and now a lifetime at the bridge - see you there little man.

You touched my heart and have now broken it
