One dog accidentally hurting the other but other doesn't tell him off?

Having issues with Milo and Rupert at the minute

Milo has got hugely clumsy again (he's getting all excited in the house for some unknown reason) and he keeps hurting Rupert. I say hurting him, only been a couple of cries but from the sheer force I can only imagine it must hurt. Its happening at least every other day sometimes more.

Yesterday Milo legged it up onto the armchair, realised there was a laptop on it so leapt back off, landed on Rupert who then rolled, smacked his head and back on the coffee table and the force of it pushed it 2 feet across into the sofa.

Just now Rupert was lying down, Milo thought I was getting his his food I think and came running up, got himself stuck in the stairgate and was trampling Rupert trying to get out of it, then suddenly got loose and landed quite hard on top of Rupert's head.

I can tell Rupert's fed up with him but he's not telling him off. Do I tell Milo off, how can I tell him off for being clumsy etc? He's banned from the arm chair and I try to discourage this excitement inside as much as possible but I'm not sure what else to do with him at the minute.

Anyone got any ideas?

Leave them to it - they are similar sized dogs so it's not as if you've got a huge rottie hurting a teeny chihuahua - Rupert WILL tell him when enough is enough Doesn't sound anything nasty and you can't really tell a young lab off for being.. well.. a young lab!

Rupert's being very quiet, that's why its bothering me a bit He let out a yelp tonight and Milo didn't even seem to hear him. He's been lying on my bed since then (about an hour now) and hasn't come out of my room. Was a bit like this when we got Milo, Rupert would just go off on his own and not be seen for a few hours at a time. Sorted that with enforced separate time but Milo is just being a clutz at the minute, its been months since he's been like this don't know where its come from

Re: One dog accidentally hurting the other but other doesn't tell him off?

My sister's dog (retired guide dog) was highly tolerant of mine when he was a puppy, so we cheated and gave him the bark command if we knew that he wanted to be left and that helped. I also kept mine on a long line to control the situation, but that isn't practical when they live in the same house. I would imagine if he was that bothered he would tell him off.

Personally, I don't expect my dogs to have to tell each other off. They may do, but like us, some are much more peaceloving souls, and some can behave like bulls Some really don't have it in them to tell another dog off unless pushed to the limits and I personally, don't see why they should have to be pushed that far. It may not be intentional and just clumsiness, but I would aim for him to behave more calmly around the home so these things don't happen.

That's more where my line of logic was I think. I can't recall Rupert having ever had a go at another dog, and when Milo came last November Rupert just went a bit into himself, quite quiet and would go off on his own/lack of interest in anything if Milo was involved at certain times etc. I wont lie I'm very attached to Rupert and whilst I like Milo I am more protective/anxious over Rupert (probably because of all his skin issues too) so I try and make sure I'm not being unfair kind of thing.

Might take Milo to the vets at this rate, nothing has really changed but he just went beserk for no reason 45 mins ago. Jumping in the air with all four feet off the ground then belting up and down through the house, never does that (he's not allowed to get that hyped up inside, send them out if they get like that). He turned two the other week, its like some uber late/random teenage phase

I totally understand people saying Rupert will say enough when it is. I just worry when Milo does push him too far, maybe he'll react quite strongly? He is a tolerant dog and he has never told anyone off but if pushed really far maybe he'd react severely, I don't know

Re: One dog accidentally hurting the other but other doesn't tell him off?

As it isn't practical for you to use the long line inside, maybe you could make sure when he gets giddy that you move him to another room so he doesn't bother your older dog?
Mine stopped after a while and for some reason he is now the only dog that he doesn't try to play with and when they are in the house together they both ignore each other.

Rupert often gets trampled on by Milo but lately its proper crashing into things. Brother said Rupert got knocked into his computer tower when I was at work and a mug of tea fell off the table and just missed him. Dunno why Milo is so hyped, its not just a bump its full force crashing into things and half the time Rupert seems to be in the way/Milo doesn't stop when he sees him

Do yours ever get like this with each other? I don't think Milo's doing it on purpose he just doesn't seem to realise, its like the lights on but nobody is home in his head

Its not play either, its general omg what's that out the window and he sends Rupert flying into furniture en route to the window (hence his current armchair ban). I should probably just be glad they don't fight/bicker

*whinge whinge whinge*
