salmon meal as first ingredient...?

Bought Luna Fishmongers and have now realized that is says salmon meal as the first ingredient. Is this crap food then? lol.

Ingredients: salmon meal (min 27%)potato(min 27%)salmon(24%)salmon oil(min.9%)Sugar beet pulp,salmon digest(min 2%) minerals,brewers yeast,potassium chloride,methionine, mannan-oligosaccharides,fructo-oligosaccharides,yucca extract,l-carnitine,beta-carotene.

Her old dog food symply:

startting to think that I should maybe stick with symply...

Re: salmon meal as first ingredient...?

Nooo salmon meal is OK. Basically fresh meat has lots of moisture, meat meal (to my knowledge) is fresh meat - the moisture. Something like 25% fresh meat is less than 10% meat meal I think, maybe even less than 5%! Hobbs or Lyceum will be able to explain properly, but its not bad don't worry

Both foods look OK, looks like Fishmongers has more meat in but it depends if that's what you want or not etc

Re: salmon meal as first ingredient...?

*meal* is basically meat that's cooked, it can be from sources that aren't fit for human consumption.

Personally, I'd look at a much lower protein content, not sure what Skinners salmon & rice is (or is it potato?) but worth a look for sure.

I don't believe in life stage foods, so I'd just go for swapping onto a good quality food over a week or so.

Re: salmon meal as first ingredient...?

Def want one with more meat in it. Thanks goldenshadow! All this is such a headache. ahaha. So confusing. All I want is a good food for luna. how often to feed her, how much to feed her, etc etc.

It's tough.
