Digging

So Lola has started digging in the garden, not massive holes or the in the middle - just round the edge. Now I've never had a dog that digs before so I wondered if anybody else's dogs dig, and if so, how do you teach them not to?

Thanks!

Re: Digging

I put dig on cue by encouraging him to dig when out - generally if you've got a digger if you act all excited and tap the ground they'll start to dig which you can then reward and cue...
Now he digs when he's out on cue and on his own accord, but never usually in the garden...very very rarely he forgets himself in the garden and starts to dig, but a quick distraction stops him in his tracks

Re: Digging

ah digging...its my specialist subject thanks to lexie. i put her poo in the holes that she has already dug to stop her returning to them to dig some more. areas that she looks interested in or has scratched grass off i sprinkle the green jelly crystals that you can get in PAH or the garlic smelling granuales that you can get in B&Q.
i also had to (well hubby did it ) construct a sandpit to encourage her to dig in one place not the entire garden (some people use kids sandpits or paddling pools filled with sand). i bury treasure (treats) in the sand to encourage and reward her for digging in the sand.

Re: Digging

The sandpit idea is really good! Forgot that, oh my boy would love a sandpit...If you put dig on cue in the sand pit you'll be laughing
