Question KC Query

I recently recived some correspondance from the Kennel Club for Wesley with his registered name which the breeder had sorted, however there was no actual certificate with any details of his parents, just a letter stating his name and then pages on their insurance plan, Ive recieved another letter since about their insurance again. Should I be expecting more? Having never owned a dog before I have no idea about KC papers, and what would I need them for?

Do you mean his family tree sort of thing? I cant mem it's name you have to pay for it off the KC, but you can do it online

Re: KC Query

Not sure whether you got an actual KC Certificate or not? I'll attach a photo of Rupert's first lot of papers after transfer of ownership below. Besides that I got a 5 gen pedigree but the breeder sorted that I don't think its something the KC normally just send out.

Re: KC Query

You have to pay extra for a pedigree certificate (which you can still purchase separately if you want one). Sounds to me that you have the registration papers as shown in the pictures above, which is all you get for a transfer of ownership.

Having just done some research on this myself, hopefully I can help. The KC should have sent you an "owners registration certificate" as per GoldenShadow's photo. That should have your doggy's parents on there, under Sire for father, and Dam for mother. It will only have their pedigree names though, which may or may not have any relationship to their everyday names. My pups sire, is called Toby ! But on the KC paperwork he is Trentdale Ulric.

You can order pedigree certificates as well, they are around £28 for 5 generations, but there is an 8 generation option too.

Hope this helps.

Re: KC Query

When I got my cavvys, the breeder gave me a copy of their pedigree going back so many generations but then I didnt want my girls KC registered as I knew they were never going to be bred from or shown!

Thats fine for you, but if they arent Reg then you cant keep proper track of your breed, people can falsify pedigrees and stick any dog and you wouldnt be able to prove it unless someone really knowledgeable abpout pedigrees in your breed had a look and tried to correct it.

The amount of people like you who come to me with a rottie pedigree saying my dogs got this and that blah blah blah do you know any of these dogs?? and 9 times outo f 10 I have to inform them the pedigree has been falsified and no, the Sire wasnt a Crufts Winner etc etc. Its sooooo darn annoying!!
