Puppy being kicked in street

Last week when I was taking Sherlock on one of his first little walks down a main road near our flat, a man KICKED him, for no reason whatsoever, as he walked past. He didn't turn around or look at me, or even look at Sherlock, it was just a savage kick as he walked past.

Sherlock is 13 weeks old, a very cute, small, totally inoffensive golden cocker spaniel. I was totally shocked - the only response I'd had from people before then was everyone cooing over him and wanting to pet him. It hadn't even occurred to me that I had to worry about people harming him.

After that I couldn't continue with the walk - I picked Sherlock up and carried him home, and felt awful. Luckily he wasn't hurt, and I think he was too shocked by the kick himself to really take it in or worry about it, but if he'd been a more nervous puppy it could have really set him back.

Has this happened to other people? Is it something to be concerned about, or was it just a one-off and unlikely to happen again? If Sherlock had been fully grown, or of a more stereotypically aggressive breed, or off lead and getting in people's way I might have been slightly less stunned (but still appalled), but to kick a soft, happy little puppy on a short lead???

I can't even believe my eyes reading this, well done for just walking away but if someone ever kicked Phoebe I'd go over and kick them back!

That is absolutly unbelieveable! I cant believe somebody would do that! Luckily Ive never experienced any thing like this and hope I never do. Ive had people that must not like dogs give him a bit of a dirty look as weve been out but no kind of physical contact. Hope you and the dog are ok :-)

Re: Puppy being kicked in street

That is awful; I have had a lot of horrible remarks and people giving us a wide berth even when Kilo was a little pup but NEVER a kick. I would like to think that if it had been me I would have been together enough to say loudly and politely so lots of people could hear "Excuse me, could you tell me why you just kicked my puppy?".

In reality I would have been so surprised and upset I would have just carried on the walk in stunned silence .

Re: Puppy being kicked in street

That is ridiculous and totally unacceptable behaviour! If you see this person again, ring the police and tell them he is using violent behaviour!!!

I would have gone absoluteley ape sh** if he did that to my dog.

What on earth would people make nasty comments about poor Kilo for I understand Bob getting them for his breed, & the girls still get the odd comment, but I didn't realise there was a Ridgie prejudice brigade out there too

Re: Puppy being kicked in street

Poor you, I'm upset just reading that

I'd have turned around and attacked him if he'd kicked my Oscar I'm afraid, or at least given him an earful and called the police!
