Angry Please Help... Quick Replies Needed!! Wrong?

Tonight, I found that my cousins dog has been put to sleep by the police. The dog was at her friends house, as her female dog was on season and she hasn't had him neutered yet. The friend is classified disabled and half blind. She (my cousin) walks the dog daily and feeds him as she is the mans carer as well as friend.

Yesterday, a elderly woman had her Yorkie on a flexi-lead and was walking past the friend's garden, and the dog (A staffie cross (Rescue)) was in the garden as my cousin was in the house. The yorkie ran through the fencing (Which the staffie can't get through) and started growling and biting my cousins dogs legs. The staffie retaliated, but nothing bad, as my cousins boyfriend easily separated them, but the yorkie has bit all his leg before he could get away. The woman came in, got her dog and my cousin walked her home, with the yorkie. The yorkie was walking fine, and my cousin didn't see any sign of injury on the dog or woman.

At 3:30AM this morning, the police came to the mans house and asked him to sign some papers so they could take the dog, as it was dangerous, and the man, blind and tired signed them, and he said he thought they were just taking him to see if he was hurt or something. My cousin went round this morning, and found the dog gone and phone the police. The police then told her that the dog was put to sleep at 7AM, as he was dangerous and was not to be put back in society.

This dog was less than twelve months old, and while still full of energy and loves to place fight with you, has never bitten anyone before and loves kids and other animals, especially cats.

The police said they recieved phone pictures of the womans torn up leg and that the staffy had done this. And, They haven't actually seen the woman to know that it's true! The woman's yorkie is supposedly dying, although has not seen a vet and the police has not seen the dog either.

So, after one 'Dangerous' moment, can the police put the dog to sleep, without any real evidence, other than a picture, that only shows a calve part of a leg and a woman's phone call, when the dog has nothing else to his name, and when the dog isn't even owned by the man looking after it, and after they told a blind man to sign for it!
The man also said they never mentioned putting him to sleep, only that they was taking him.

Please remember, the police have not met the lady personally, or seen the dog, and the lady just phoned up and i believe emailed a photo, and told them the address.

We're getting lawyers involved and I just need to know what to say when i ring tomorrow and ask them why the hell they put down a dog, without notifying the owner or even telling us they were putting him down.

Please help! This means a lot to our family!

Oh my god, thats awful!

Something sounds very wrong here! How could they pts a young puppy after such little evidence?! It all seems to have happened so suddenly.

I am so sad after reading this. Poor little dog didnt stand a chance..

Sorry I cant offer any advice just my deepest condolences and hope you get justice for this poor little dog.

Re: Please Help... Quick Replies Needed!! Wrong?

Im sorry that i cant help just wanted to say this is really disgusting the police shouldnt just put a dog down on say so not even seeing the woman who was biten or the dog. The yorkie came into the garden and shouldnt have been allowed to go in there. If the yorkie was dying why isnt it at the vets.Somebody on here know a lawyer that specialises in dog cases hope they will be on soon.

Re: Please Help... Quick Replies Needed!! Wrong?

Thank you!

I'm glad someone else thinks this is wrong too.

Also, it was less than four hours after taking him, that they took him to be put down. Is this normal? Giving the family no chance to fight for him? I don't know, get him neutered, get him a muzzle, Anything!?

Re: Please Help... Quick Replies Needed!! Wrong?

I am so sorry to read about this...
Sadly, it's not the first time I've heard about police acting first and investigating later when it comes to so-called 'dangerous dogs' and 'dangerous' circumstances. And the devastated families left behind can't seem to get any justice

I'll try and get the contact details of someone going through something similar, see if they're prepared to share what they've been through, if it can help.

Angry Re: Please Help... Quick Replies Needed!! Wrong?

Thanks for all the help so far!

Ive saved the number from the links, and I've tried it, but they must be asleep, so i'll try again in the morning.

Sorry thing is, is that The dog, Named Leo, well, his original owner (Also my cousin) Died recently, so i know the dog is looked after where ever he is.

I'll keep trying, because it's not fair! I've told my mum and auntie to get our lawyer ready, because i won't let it drop.

Edit: Aww, The dog called billy, above, looks exactly like Leo too! Same cute face, looks like he just stole a cookie
