Not drinking water?

Hi all,

Me and my OH has noticed that Monty isn't drinking much water? Should we be worried?

Sorry to be blunt but his pee is very yellow when he does go (dehydrated?) and he only goes a few times a day. For a 14 week pup he seems to have a strong bladder?

He seems fine in himself but it is becoming very hard to house train him when he doesn't seem to need to go?

Thanks,
Darren

Re: Not drinking water?

Our Rocky doesn't seem to need to go that often either (he's 16 weeks now) and he doesn't drink much either - only if he has treats which seem to make him thirsty. He is on wet food but when briefly on dry food he drank loads more - they say there's a lot of moisture in wet foot?

Haven't checked Rocky's wee colour though? He seems fine - in fact I was surprised whilst out walking yesterday he wee'd 3 times!!

I would be very concerned when you scruff him his skin should go straight back if it doesnt hes dehydrated and in a pup thats dangerous I would take him to the vet he could have an underlying problem if hes not yet insured get him insured as if he has a longterm health issue diagnoses prior to insuring excludes that condition

Re: Not drinking water?

If he is on wet food he wont drink as much as on dry. Daisie sometimes doesn't seem to drink much, but she drinks from puddles in the garden.

I's heard that wet (tinned) dog food is 70% water.

Re: Not drinking water?

He's on dry food so that wouldn't be the problem.

However, we've just tried changing the bowl from a steel one where he can see his reflection to a ceramic one. And guess what.. He's drinking loads..

A dog scared of his looks maybe?
