Re: It seriously brakes my heart...

Currently snuggled up to my rescue stuffy. She had obviously been bred from we had her spayed as soon as we got her. Makes me so sad. We actually had some chavs knock at our door to ask if we wanted to breed her !!!!!!!

Re: It seriously brakes my heart...

It doesn't help with the way some people 'dress' their dogs.

In my local park a SBT owner regularly walks her dog - usually solo, but you know how dog owners tend to hook up and walk together, she doesn't, why? I encountered her once and the fact that her dog was wearing a full studded 'breast plate' or pull vest as I call them, r'eet put me off letting mine say hello. No matter how much she said it was friendly and her BF got the 'plate' for him to wear, made no dint in my 'impression', but sadly her dogs frame of mind was reflected in the response of mine - mine head & tail up, static body, with mine turning head away ... we walked the other way.

She wonders why she walks alone - sad, both for her and her dog - with some breeds first impressions really do count.

Re: It seriously brakes my heart...

I have two staffies - 2yrs old who is spayed & an 11month old just had her first season & being spayed in a couple of months when the vets give her the all clear.

When I walk my staffies alot of people avoid me - they do not have big collars - they both have harnesses not to look hard but because they both pull to be let off, they both love a run round & to play but some people see them & grab there dog as if they will savage them. My dogs have been brought up around other dogs & various breeds that my friends have & family & never shown any sign of aggression. I really pi*ses me off when people judge them or the owners beacuse they choose to have a SBT!!

They need a lot of training & some people dont read up on the breed then think "I cant handle them" & flog them on

I dont think any breed should be judged at first sight or the owners.

Re: It seriously brakes my heart...

Sorry if it narks that people do take first impressions with SBT's, but as you are acutely aware the majority sadly give the minority the same brush tarring.

As my post said my impression of her dog was reflected by my dogs body language - hers was not giving friendly vibes as much as she thought it was friendly, which is why we walked the other way.

Not nit picking btw, but to wear a breast plate because they pull to be let off is really a result of them having learnt to pull without first being taught to walk on a loose lead. I see a lot of happy staffies trotting neatly beside their owners, and friendly dogs they are too.

I too suffer for breedism in that neither of my dogs are scatterbrained nutters on the run from the local institution.

NO they do not have a breast plate - thats a harness with a metal bit in the middle or studs on!! they just have a normal harness all black not thick, not with studs on or a breast plate!! & they have been taught on the walk back they walk to heal its on the way there because they are so excited and love going a walk & playing.

When I was walking one of my regular dogs (golden retriver) a met a man with an Airdale - the dog was a little funny with max so I stood back. Then he started going on about how nasty staffies are & a man who goes around the park has a big staff & he hates it.......I knew who he was on about, a big beautiful staffie called buddy - always on his lead & quiet often has a play with max. I just walked away as I was narked off from his comments about a dog he'd never had interation with.
His Airdale showed signs of aggression towards Max - Buddy has never shown any sign of aggression.

If you also get judged by the breed in which you wish to own & love then I am surprised at you making assumptions about others
