This thread is about creating an awareness of a breed that is still in its infacy... (THE AKITA INU) although not intentional.. it does have an educational perspective.
ALL the Akitas pictured on here are in thier own right beautiful compared to its standard. To make a comment that you have seen better would possibly imply that you have had alot of dealings with Akita inus? possibly judged the breed? Know the breed standard? The latest pictures posted are of someones pet.. and to that standard everyones pet is beautiful.

So unfortunatley Carol... I do take great offence to your comment of "ive seen better looking ones" From that comment I would like to know from what experience you have judged this persons Akita Inu? Picture 1... has clearly been stated it is possibly an immature Akita inu or one out of coat... the next pictures posted by someone who actually owns this beautiful breed... to what comparison have you seen better? As per the Akita Inu standard... NOT the Akita Standard...

I agree! Carol...I havn't heard of you? Are you a breeder? Judge? My red/white dog is a grandson of Kakusui - Kajitsu Kennels World Champion. He was shown for the first time in August (and won his class) judged by Britt Nyberg (if you know anything about the breed you will know her). This was her critique on him:

"Male of good size and desired breed type. Excellent head
shape with a beautiful Japanese expression. Correct bite.
Strong neck and back. Well set on tail. Good bone and
correct angulations. Tight cat feet. Excellent coat colour
and texture. Moves well from the side, slightly close behind. Very friendly nature."

So I think he is a good representation of the breed, especially considering the lack of quality Akita Inu in the UK. I would love to know where you have seen better!

You obviously know nothing about the breed. The Akita Inus pictured here are very much what they should look like. Like it or not there are very good examples of the breed.
If you think that there is only one Akita then yes you will possibly think it is a cross... but as there is the "American type" Akita and the "Japanese type" Akita Inu... they are two totally different breeds.
Please try educating yourself first before passing comment....

Re: akita inu????

perhaps my eyes are funny, i don't see whats suposed to be so ugly about it?
lovely long legs, beautiful tiger stripes, fluffy.. got some bulk and some muscle to it so it won't blow over in the wind..
i'm no expert at all, but it definatly isn't an ugly dog.. infact, the more i look at it the more i want one

Re: akita inu????

I think they are stunning, and I agree the silver brindles are by far the most striking colour.

I would absolutely love one but I have small dogs and there is always the "what if" factor involved, they'll probably get on fine but every dog has it's off day and it only takes a snap over food and it's goodbye Chihuahua.
