As is the case in any caring profession but without a doubt there are vets out there that overcharge, misdiagnose at the cost of the owner and in severe cases at the expense of the pet - they pay with their life! You have obviously been lucky in your choice of vet - many have not.

I'm just glad I live in a country where medical treatment for humans is free, paying hundreds for emergency vet treatment for my dogs is nothing compared to not being able to afford medical treatment for your child.

Re: Why do people bitch about the vets so much?

My local vethas just been taken over by Vets4Pets as the owner has retired. Luckily most of the old staff are still there, but have turned into salesman trying to sell vaccinations for life at £99.

The vet I saw has been with my local practice for years and was almost apologetic when she told me the "corporate policy" was that if your dog was more than a month late for it's booster you had to start the whole procedure again. I was gobsmacked as I have been reading loads recently thats yearly booster are not necessary for most dogs. The two I took for their boosters should have been due at the end of July, but she let me off for it this once

The vet stated that she normally allowed people to have a booster up to 3 months after it's due date, but was unable to do so under the new company rules.

After getting the sales pitch about the £99 offer, I was told it became invalid if the rules above were broken

Unfortunately the company is taking over loads of local vets - soon there will be no choice but to use this faceless corporation

Thats disgusting.

I have to admit, i wouldnt touch a Veterinary chain with a bargepole. Too profit orientated, and too many company rules.

I like the personal touch of a small practice.
