Test before breeding

Whilst answering a thread I came across the Necessary health tests before breeding sticky in the breeding section. Even though I never intend to breed (bit hard with spayed bitches) I saw American Bulldog and NCL Test. I had never heard of it.

I am placing this post here as many, possible breeders will not go to the breeding section. It may also be useful for people planning to get a dog as to why to take care that you get a good breeder.

I found this: (can be upsetting)
YouTube - ‪N.C.L. (Neuronal Ceroid Lipofuscinosis)‬‏

No matter what your breeding philosophy is, pedigree/crossbreed I certainly don't care. Please do research and ensure necessary health tests are carried out.

Arrow breeders must screen

indeed - R.I.P, Chiva; what a sweet dog, despite his struggles.
i hope it was not painful.

here is the AVAR list of purebred Heritable Disorders in Dogs -
GUIDE TO CONGENITAL AND HERITABLE

if a dog is cross-bred, they can carry any issues from EACH breed of their parents -
i-e, Lab x Poodle = everything Labrador PLUS everything Poodle: SA, hip-dysplasia, UAP [elbow], etc.

additionally, *waiting* to breed until any prospective stud or dam is at least 2-YO
adds lifespan to their pups - with no other change; their progeny live an average of 2-years longer.
waiting till 24-MO minimum to breed means 85% of all heritable conditions which may affect => that dog <==
will show symptoms, thus preventing pups being born to a sire or dam who later has heritable problems.

since 2-YO dogs who are bred young can have GRANDCHILDREN by 24-mos-age, U can see how quickly
a problem can spread if a dog is bred before they show symptoms, or without a screening test.

Re: Test before breeding

Poor dog I hope it will make people think before breeding but sadly I don't think it will. The type of person who breeds willy nilly won't even know about this disease let alone test for it and no one suffers except the dogs.

RIP sweet one, no diseases at the bridge for you to suffer from. xxx
