Re: Anyone got an oldie

I suspect dogs are no different than their human counterparts - the older ones cat nap more during the day. Don't think there is anything wrong with that though.

Ive had several oldies, previous ones were 11half, 14 and turned 14, one of the current ones is getting on for 13 half, they were all the same. Happy on their walks but happy to sleep the rest of the day. They do tend to sleep sound too.

Re: Anyone got an oldie

What age is a dog considered an 'oldie'. My JRT turned 7 this year. I guess this is not old at all for a JRT at all and he is still hugely full of beans, but he is turning a bit lighter in the face area and I can't help but wonder about when he does get older sometimes and if there is anything, supplements etc I should give him now to help with the 'ageing process'.

Re: Anyone got an oldie

I've got an oldie, well she's only 8 years but the average lifespan for a bull mastiff is 8-10 so I guess you'd class her as an oldie.

She's starting to get slower and a little grumpier, but she's a great dog and I wouldn't have her any other way!

Re: Anyone got an oldie

If been 11 in 2 months time is classed as an oldie, then harvey doesnt know that yet. We went to a country park about a month ago, we walked for about 2 hours the dogs were swimming chasing backward and forwards, must have gone miles and miles, we got back into the car within 2 mins molly age 3 next month and charlie 7yrs were crashed out asleep, harvey was sat up watching the world go by him Hes certainly age defiant.

Re: Anyone got an oldie

my parents had their lab right up til he was 14. during the last year or so he used to sleep pretty much all the time, sometimes he would go into such a deep sleep you could barely wake him, worrying for my parents but my vet assured us this was normal for an old dog.
