savannah is on a distinguished road
For your beloved pets, woould you use............

the services of a pet sitter, who can provide the love and care of your pets in your own home, or a boarding kennel where the care is provided, but just not in such a personal environment?

Just interested!!!!

We use Kennels - Millie has had a 1 week stay previously and is going for 10 days in the summer. It's not ideal and she comes on most holidays with us for this summer this sadly isnt possible

I'd never use kennels again - My Great Dane didn't eat and lost a huge amount of weight and 6 months later I am still trying to get the weight back on.

Re: For your beloved pets, woould you use............

We have a neighbour who comes in twice a day to play with and feed the cats and rodents, and the hooligans go to auntie Christies house (Paws and Claws), I leave them knowing they are safe and happy (and in the dogs case spoilt rotten) and they are left with someone who knows them personally and who they trust.

Some kennels can be very good, but having worked in one in the past, I do not think my two would cope at all, in any way, whatsoever in kennels. Homesitting is a good second option but can be pricey, and you don't know ther homesitter personally- so we a) ask my friend to look after them in her home, they know her and love her and her other dogs. b) ask the parentals to look after them. c) take them with us or d) don't go on holiday!

Re: For your beloved pets, woould you use............

When the time comes and we can go on holidays again, I'd be trying to find Izzy a kennel that she likes as I just wouldn't trust the reliability of a house sitter. What if they decide that they're only going to stay with your dog for a few hours a day but then claim they've been with them all day? You'd never know! You could say the same about a kennel but I'd just feel a bit more happy with a kennel, as long as I'd vetted it first!

We are sooooo lucky if we go away my Mother and Mother in law move in and look after all four of our animals!

We have in the past , used a petsitter which was an excellent option but costly - cost more than the holiday lol

Re: For your beloved pets, woould you use............

If we can't take the dogs on holiday/little break we don't go away

In an emergency I have family and friends who would help out.

Busy trawling the net now looking for last minute bargain breaks that take pets ... some great deals and we could do with a nice break

Re: For your beloved pets, woould you use............

Usually when I go away my good friend looks after Kenzie, but in July we're going away together so she's going in kennels. I would have considered home boarding but when I booked it she hadn't yet had her first season and there was a possibility she could be in season when I was away, and I just didn't trust a home boarder enough to keep her safe.

I'm surprised the kennels accepted her as I was under the impression that kennels wouldn't accept girls if there was a chance of them being in season while they have them? Or did I just make that up?
