Re: Buying A Puppy

Not being able to turn up unexpectedly,
Not being able to meet both parents,
Not seeing mum and pups together
Parents looking unhealthy and smelling
Breeder more interested in telling you the pro's and avoiding the cons of the breed,
Dirty kennels,
Breeder lowering the price if you look like you are changing your mind,
Sign on the side of the road puppies for sale (seen it before )
No mention of health tests

Cant think of anymore right now

I also kinda see where you're coming from about the male and female working dogs ... but its not like that in my case , The dad was the mans dog and his wife wanted a bitch ... they decided to let her have one litter then she's getting spayed
But I totally agree with your points now clarified
Mese You do not need to explain to me the reasons why you got your pup/ dog LOL I have never had a Working dog so have not got a clue what to look for so alarm bells would take awhile to ring for me choosing one me thinks

Re: Buying A Puppy

Well, before it might have been different. But now... these are some of the things that would set alarm bells ringing for me:

Not being able to see mum
Not being able to see the rest of the litter
Not being able to see pedigree until last visit
The breeder not asking me "enough" questions
The breeder getting annoyed/upset at my questions
Makes up excuses as to why I can't come and view
Doesn't have a contract
Doesn't endorse their bitch pups if they are only going to a pet home, or don't bother to explain why they don't.
Pups being shut outside or in kennels all alone. Kept in a shut off room at the other end of the hosue with no human company etc. Left in their own toilet mess.
Kept in dirty conditions
Kept in crowded conditions
A breeder that breeds more than 2 - 3 different breeds of dogs. My breeder was breeding about 2 different breeds of dogs... had about 3 - 4 different litters of pups going on at the same time. Also bred 2 different breeds of cats, and she had about 4 different litters of cats going on at the same time. So when I went to visit... in total (there could have been more) she had about 8 litters of babies going on at ONE time. Hmm.
How "clean" their house is. If it's a sh*t hole, then I wouldn't even bother. Been there done that... and it aint good.
Wont agree to vet check once pup's come home with me

Just things like that really.
