Are you a fair weather walker?

I admit I am a bit of a fair weather walker. Lexi and Bosley get 2 walks a day every day half an hour on a morning and an hour on a night but if it's raining and really bad we walk a bit faster, so 20 mins on a morning and 40 mins on a night, but tonight we sent of on our usual evening walk and because it was so nice decided to walk a bit further and ended up being out for over 2 hours....I love my dogs all the time but having them out on a really nice evening like tonight.....I really love em.

Re: Are you a fair weather walker?

Nope - I'm out three times a day whatever the weather. I'd MUCH rather be out walking in the freezing cold than on a warm day

BTW - I wouldn't class you as a ''fair weather walker'', at least your dogs get out twice a day regardless, even if for a shorter time than usual. FWWs are those, IMO, who only take their dogs out on the very few sunny days we get a year!

Re: Are you a fair weather walker?

I enjoy the walks more in nice weather. Charlie usually gets a little practice at off-lead or we go to the beach etc. But we're out for the same amount of time whether its snowing, raining, or sunny.

I've got my wellies, raincoat and ipod for winter, my shades and dog toys for summer

Re: Are you a fair weather walker?

No, the dogs dont care about the weather, so they have roughly an hour morning and afternoon/evening, occasionally a bit longer if we meet with other people and it is a lovely day!

But my two are quite young still, so not really able to go on for ages.

Some of our best walks for memories have been in the frosty fields looking at the trees, as long as i can afford to get the right coats and footwear so that i can dress properly i really dont mind.

It does take a lot more effort to clean up both the dogs and us though if it is wet/raining, frosty and hard ground is good cos we dont come home covered in muck and mud!

Re: Are you a fair weather walker?

I think that's half our issue is if Lexi enjoyed being out in the rain I wouldn't mind so much but the fields we walk her on, out house backs onto them and if you take her onto the fields in the rain and let her off the lead she runs home!!! So I think i have a fair weather dog....having said that we both love the snow...can be out for hours in the snow.

Re: Are you a fair weather walker?

Im not, i prefer to put on my wellies and go without all the distractions.

But my dog is!!! as soon as it starts to rain she turns round and starts walking back towards home.

Re: Are you a fair weather walker?

Nope. Of course on nice days like today it is just pleasant to be out and you feel yourself wanting to go that further and stay out relaxing and enjoy the sunshine but whether hammering down or what not, summer, spring, winter (even though the cold is very unpleasant!) he still gets the his usual length walks, he has so much energy to burn off. I struggle hugely in the ice so shorter walks then, try and wear him out in the garden instead!

Re: Are you a fair weather walker?

I prefer the rainy/cold/foggy days , it usually means there arent as many unsocialised bad mannered dogs out and about

Re: Are you a fair weather walker?

I don't want to be but I have greyhounds - if it's raining we go for a drag rather then a walk - even with their coats on! Cold/snow/miserable apart from rain we walk as normal but any rain and they just stand looking dolefully out the door and then back at me.
