Getting a greyhound - any advice appreciated.
Hi,
I'm very excited as we are finally getting a dog. We've fallen in love with a rescue greyhound and have reserved her, just waiting to pass the home check. My only reservation is the fact we have a cat - the rescue have paired us up with a dog that doesn't have a strong chase instinct though. So am hoping that introductions will go OK. One question I've got is do people recommend we get a crate? I saw today that one greyhound rescue will only rehome to people who have one. The rescue I've used haven't mentioned one. Are the soft crates any good? Any advice on settling her in would be good! Thanks |

Re: Getting a greyhound - any advice appreciated.
congrats on a fine choice of dog. one of ours is a retired racer and yes we to have cats. ours hates cats and catches them as well, its not pretty when he does and he has reduced the number of neighbourhood cats ere, but as long as you are careful accidents can be avoided. they are the most loving breed and one id recomment to anyone. hes on the link below if u want to see him.
one thing to remember is that they have the lowest percentage of body fat of all breeds, i think its 7%, so due to this they really do hate the cold. ![]() |

Re: Getting a greyhound - any advice appreciated.
Yesterday we went to the Game Fair at Newark - The greyhound rescue that is a Sutton-on-Trent had a stand there - I cannot tell you how I fell in love with the greyhounds there, they were so soft and gentle - I can imaagine how I have overlooked them for so long.
Also there is a lady around the corner from us who always has two rescue greayhounds at a time - they are so rewarding she tells me. I understand that if they are not used to cats they will chase them - but I would imagene that the rescue will know which ones are used to cats and which are not. enjoy your greyhound!!! and keep us informed regards sue |

Re: Getting a greyhound - any advice appreciated.
I just LOVE posts concerning Greyhounds, since it gives me an opportunity to extol their wonderful virtues.
Greyhounds are the softest, kindest and most pleasing dogs on the planet. You will rarely find one that takes you for a walk and their only wish is a soft blanket or lay their head, a bowl of food when required and two short walks a day. However, there are still so many that are overlooked in rescue centres. Contrary to popular belief, they do NOT require miles of exercise a day and really are the quintessential couch potato ![]()
