Talking Advice please :)

Ok everyone

I a while ago I posted a thread about a place that turned out to be a pupy farm as I was conside4ring getting a dog from there

Anyway we rang them and they seemed very nice but the next litters are available in the spring and I would prefer to get a dog earlier and I am still not sure about them.

I have found a nice cross breed of dachshund cross chihuahua and it seems that due to their short legs they will be getting a lot exercise from vbery little - (if you udnerstand they would cover more ground in say a metre than we would) and that they are a small friendly breed. I have found someone who has just had a litter and I would be able to get it in around 7 weeks or so.

I wanted a few of your thoughts on the breeds and whether a male or female would be better. i dont want to breed from the dog.

Thanks!

Re: Adivde please :)

They can be a little stubborn. They do like a run about but some can suffer from elbow and spinal problems. They also some times are hard to house break. To be honest its nice to have a dog in the spring as you can leave the back door open and they tend to be puppy trained alot faster. But if you take them out after a nap, food, drink and play you cant be to far out. This breed can become attacted to one person. Although ive met some that are very friendly and others that are very wary. Its good to see the litter and the parents it can give a idear of the parents character etc. Good luck with your searching and hope it all goes well.

hmm, yes when I did my research I got a varied response, some places said that they were very friendly dogs that were brilliant with people but others said they could be wary. I mean I just need to know whether this will generally be a good dog for me.

On the same note what do people think about cavachons (cavaleir cross bichon frise) or just bichone frise pegegree? Are the low exercise feiendly dogs?

Re: Adivde please :)

I am sure that everyone who actually knows the breeds will agree when i say big dogs in little bodies!Don't under estimate what these little dogs can do!
Yep if the pup takes after the dachshund then you have to be careful of thier backs,ie stairs, jumping on and off chairs ect, just a little common sense rearly!
Out of interest which type of dachshund is it as i have found the long hairs can be a bit lazy (my experience)where as the smooths and wires will 'go' all day.
Ithink it is a cracking little cross and if you decide to have one, spoil it etc but remember it is a dog or it will soon be running rings around you!!!!
Enjoy whatever dog you get!.

Re: Adivde please :)

I think it is a short hair, i would prefer a long har but I cant be too picky.

I am not defiantly getting this dog but it seemed like a nice mixture and lovely looking!

I am also interesting in bichon frise and cavachons

Re: Adivde please :)

I do agree little dogs do have a lot of energy to also. Bichon Frises have become very popular and are very happy dogs that normally get on well in family life. Any dog you decide to get will have some sort of fault. Bichoens will require a bit of grooming and can get tear staining but this is keep under control wth cleaning the eye area with cool boiled water or a suitable eye staining solution from the vets. Have you thought of a snauzser sorry think i spelt that wrong. There quite nice sized dogs and are good family dogs. Or a whippet they are easy to keep with grooming, General exercise and then they are quite happy to relax a bit. They can be sensitive to flea stuff, and can get cold so may need a coat in winter.

Re: Adivde please :)

Hm, I was aware that often smaller dogs are the more energetic and excitable but I definitly aiming for a small dog due to me living in a reasonably small house and would prefer it.

Are there any low maintenance low exercise needs smaller dogs? I was told bichon frise are low maintenance

Re: Adivde please :)

IMO Most Toy Breeds are low maintenance. The trouble with a crossbreed is you have 2 temperaments and characteristics to think about

Re: Adivde please :)

yer we have a chihuahua and he is the most dangerous dog ive ever meet, the kids know they cant pick him up. If he comes to you you should be fine but if you want him to get of your lap you have to wait untill he wants to if you see what i mean lol. I heard dashhounds are number 1 most dangerous dog and chihuaahua are number 2, so the mix could be eerrmm not to sure, But they could turn into the sweetest little pet you ever could have. Good luck with your choice.
