Re: black grman shepherds

thanks for that, i will certainlet try the arden grange range. she is on bakers complete puppy food, and our 5 month old shepherd is also on the same and he seems to be suffering from it aswell. we tried them on beta and the same also. i wanted to try eukanuba but it is very exspensive (especially the way our lot go through it!) and i have been told that eukanuba is too rich for much dogs?

she's a cutie

Re: black grman shepherds

Over feeding can give dogs the runs, I know you said she was a bit on the thin side, so maybe you are over doing the food to try to get weight on. I agree some GSD's do have a sensitive digestive system, so it could be due to a change in food coming to you, or like with the house training could be just a reaction to all the change. Hope you get on ok at the vets.

Arden grange as you will see from their site is actually a very good price for such a quality food, and is British made, so scores over Eukanuba from that perspective alone.

Many dogs like children do not tolerate food colourings and artificial preservatives which the Bakers is full of. Pretty shapes and colours are designed to appeal to the human not be good for the dog. Also you will find that Bakers has quite a lot of sugars which a dog does not need in it's diet at all, and can also contribute to looseness in a more sensitive digestion.

Re: black grman shepherds

I adopted 2 male black shepherds a year and half ago. At an animal shelter. They had no socialization with people. They love other dogs. They are a work in progress. They get a lot of attention. But I do feel disciminated at dog parks and on trails, even when we go camping. They tend to think they are some kind of wolf hybred. I get that all the time. But once they get to know them they change there minds and they are good dogs. I crate trained them overnight and when we left the house until they were about 10 months. Now they do great they have a dog door. They eat a part raw diet with kibble. My Nero is very thin and he eats as much as Brutus. I think he burns the calories because he is the more shy, nervous of the 2.
I have run into some people who never seen black GSD. I don't know if there more desiriable, maybe by people who want them. Minn

Re: black grman shepherds

Yikes, did I hear someone mention Eukanuba? Please be careful when feeding this product to your dog. It really does have a high protein content, and I have seen dogs bouncing off the wall eating this diet. Its great for working dogs, but use with care.

Upset tummy's can result after eating something one shouldn't (goodness that sounds very posh lol), changing a dogs diet rarely than a gradual introduction to another food, an emotional upset of some kind, health reason, and the list goes on.

Obviously a vet check is the first point of call, but I gather that has been done.

I have to agree with Nina on the Eukanuba food - I have seen and heard bad things about it too - its not a food I would ever feed or promote to others.

Re: black grman shepherds

that is what i was told about eukanuba, so i would never use it for my dogs.i have just switched to royal canin as my vet recomended it. i will try them all out on it and see how things go. jet is also leanrning fast not to do her buisness in the house, so things are very much improving. she's also not a chewer so it's great that i'm not getting my house chewed up either!
