Anti-Bark Spray Collar

Hi all,

I've just been browsing the pets planet website and found the Multivet Anti-Bark Spray Collar (Multivet Anti-Bark Spray Collar Spray & Ultrasonic Collars UK)

I never knew these existed, are they really dog friendly? Or is it unfair on the dog to do use them.

I'm more intrigued than wanting to get one.

Darren

Re: Anti-Bark Spray Collar

I dont know much about them realy. My trainer has one that he puts on barking dogs. It sprays citronella arond the dogs face when the remote is activated. They seem to work but the spray has to be activated at the right time. I think they are quite expensive. They use one on Dog Borstal.

He's not doing much 'training' then, is he?

I have seen them and I haven't used them. Neither would I, because I have never seen a situation where I believed there wasn't any other solution for the dogs 'problems', and that includes Dog Borstal. In some situations, even with correct use, they can actually make the problems worse. I'll give an example.

Dog barks and lunges at other dogs whilst on walks due to lack of socialisation as a pup. which means he is not used to other dogs and they worry him. Owner/trainer uses a spray collar, 'activated' whenever the dog barks at other dogs, hence the dog in theory should learn to stop barking at other dogs pretty fast. However, the dog might decide that other dogs REALLY are something to worry about, as every time he sees one he gets sprayed in the face with water/citronella etc. That in turn could mean the barking/lungeing gets worse, or that the dog even gets more aggressive to other dogs.

If that doesn't happen, it will probably stop the dog barking. However, it will nto stop the dog disliking or being afraid of the other dog. It will just be afraid and quiet. Not what I would want for any dog.

Re: Anti-Bark Spray Collar

I will tell him that on Saturday. He is an excelent trainer, I have only seen him use it once because the dog would not stop barking and was disturbing the other dogs. He trains the Southern Golden Retrevers, a formation team and my dog passed bronze at 5 months, now almost ready for silver.

Hi Tasha,

That's nuts! Your poor dog must of been so confused why it kept going off.

The one thing we are worried about is Monty's barking, he doesn't stop barking when he is alone and the neighbour has 2 very small babies (the walls are quite thin too!).

Re: Anti-Bark Spray Collar

Hi Darren, I can only comment on the ultrasonic collar since a client of mine has tried one. Her dog was barking incessantly at other dogs and it made absolutely no difference whatsoever.

I know nothing however, about the spray collars, so cannot comment. I'm sure other people on the forum may though.

I shall look forward to reading other peoples experiences.

I look forward to the replies to. The website says "Bark can eliminate nuisance-barking by up to 88%" I wonder if that is an honesty truthful percentage?

I have an ultrasonic unit I got from Bid TV for £2.99 it has stopped my neighbours dog barking and means I can safely go out and know my dog is no more affected than hers rather than mine getting sprayed for hers nad behaviour for me it has worked they are very sophisticated machines and the only reliable units are those with adjustable frequency as dogs hear at different levels

Re: Anti-Bark Spray Collar

Darren, if you want to try the ultrasonic, I have the one my client brought. I often get passed food, biscuits, toys etc in the hope that I can find a good home for them. Usually give them to rescue centres.

It's yours if you want it, since it had absolutely no affect on my clients dog.
