Puppy Vaccinations.....common sense?

Had a couple come into the shop today with their Pom puppy on a lead. She was dinky so I asked how old she was....8 weeks. I asked if she had any jabs yet....no . What is wrong with people?! How can you get a puppy and not know about vaccinations?!

Poor pooch had been walked through the city centre and round our shop which always has dogs in it! She is so so so small, I hope she doesn't catch anything!

So, is it common place for owners to be so stupidly naive? Or just a one off? I hope the latter xx

Re: Puppy Vaccinations.....common sense?

its actually shockingly common for owners to never bother vaccinating there dogs and then they question why they get ill and are shocked at costs of treatment!!
I think it should be viewed as neglect!!

Re: Puppy Vaccinations.....common sense?

You would hope it would be a one off, but I've seen a couple of small puppies around when I talk about vaccinations, the answer it's to expressive, yet they can afford to buy a puppy.

Re: Puppy Vaccinations.....common sense?

Sophie has all her but her Rabies and one for raccoons. And Ive taken her to public places with dogs (so far all have been friendly from the little poodle to the american bull dog)

Shell have her other shots this Wednesday, if she hadnt had her first ones she wouldnt have been on the ground.

Its cheaper to get a pups its shots then o pay for medication or surgery because it caught something.

Re: Puppy Vaccinations.....common sense?

Met someone the other day who said it was too expensive . Makes you wonder about what else would be too expensive really. Mind you a man I work with was shocked that Kilo is insured "if anything happens to him you can just get another one" mad:.

Glad you made her think.

We live in a 'disposable' society these days...if it is too much trouble / money to fix, get a new one. Just have to look at the amount of lovely old dogs pushed out of their homes to make way for a cute new puppy. .

Re: Puppy Vaccinations.....common sense?

The thing that bothers me most about that is not the uninformed owner, but the breeder who would ALLOW a dog to leave with someone as clueless as that!
