Dangerous Dogs Act - Rubbish!!!

Ok here's one for debate - the dangerous dogs act!

In my opinion it should be scrapped and replaced with 'The Dangerous Owners Act'. No breed of dog is dangerous! Dogs who act agrresively towards humans is usually due to a human mis-treating them and some point causing aggression born out of fear.

So why is it the same breeds of dogs we hear about attacking humans? Simple! - The type of person who mis treats a dog is someone who gets one for the wrong reason. Usualy some thug who wants a dog as a status symbol will go out and buy a pitbull, rottweiler etc because they think these dogs look tough and have a rep! Any breed in a thugs hands would behave aggressive but they dont tend to opt for yorkshire terriers.

I think it's time we stopped banning breeds and look closer at people who own these dogs. I'd be even happy to have to apply for a dog licence as an owner... whatever the solution banning breeds isn't it.....
......disscuss...........

Thumbs up Re: Dangerous Dogs Act - Rubbish!!!

Here here, owning a pet is a dedication and training your pet takes alot of time and patience, if you behave aggressively towards an animal it is going to learn to protect itself or run and hide, if you train a dog to play rough then how does it asstablish the difference between play and attack? Same with cats, playing with a kitten using your hands and fingers is funny but when the kitten becomes a cat and scratches a childs wriggling hand its called aggression, how does the cat know the child ect was not wanting to play? a very good subject Magik!

Brilliant views poeple lets have some more debates like this. It does bring up a very good point of just 'who' should be banned and what actually causes aggression in animals. I agree that this should be looked into more carefully.

I agree with you. I've got a staffordshire bull terrier and she's as soft as anything. I've also got a 19 month ols son who she's great with. I do believe it's the owners who should be punnished for nasty dogs.

Now where's my soap box! ! ! !

I have had Akita's since i was very young, my parents kept them before me

I have never had a problem with any, its all about training & socialising.

Bad owners make bad pets, just like bad parents & asbo kids

Re: Dangerous Dogs Act - Rubbish!!!

british bulldogs also get a bad reputation because they 'LOOK' fierce. the government have got them on the list along side other breeds to 'ban' which is totally ridiculous. my opinion is.. its the owners of certain dogs that should be banned, not the breed. its the way the animal is brought up. what do you think?

Re: Dangerous Dogs Act - Rubbish!!!

well said, i myself have kept and bred englishbull terriers and staffy bull terrier for 22 years, i was 14 when i got my first eng bully and from that day to this very day they have never ever once shown any signs of aggression towards any1 or anything, my children have been raised around this breed and all my dogs have been the best ever companions for them.

Re: Dangerous Dogs Act - Rubbish!!!

i will tell you something which really p'ed me off, reading this thread just reminded me of this.

my sister walks her bully everyday in the meodows and many many people walk there with there other dogs, apart from the very rare odd 1 there is never ever no horrible dogs over there, they all play together nice.

anyways my sister told me this story about a month ago.
my sisters mates neighbour own a scatty red staffy girly, thy walk her over the same field every day, but that day this old boy was walking his dogs, lab cross or something, anyways the staffy and this dog started playing and after a few mins into play the other dog went for the staffy and the staffy retaliated back and with that the old boy panicked and tryed to pull them apart.
he got accidently bit doing this.
the police was called and they read the dangerous dog act out to the staffy owner and she has got to go court for this.
it was the other dog that started but the staffy got the blame.

alot of people know this old boy and this dog and said it always starts but people saying that meant nothing.
all the police was interested in was what happened then
ill let u all know how she gets on coz the court case is soon.

Re: Dangerous Dogs Act - Rubbish!!!

thats such a shame. terriers and bulldogs are always gonna get tarred with the same brush, it really riles me. when i go out walking with my two adult bullys i get a lot of attention. always one of two reactions....they love them or totally body swerve them. usually the latter. see trying to explain to people 'they dont bite, just look sour faced'. ive now given up and dont say anything, i dont care if they dont like my dogs. if you dont like them, dont look ...
