Re: Dangerous Dogs Act - Rubbish!!!

The courts often give a "lifetime ban" on owning animals in serious cases, but like anyone would check?

Re: Dangerous Dogs Act - Rubbish!!!

I also balme the media, you don't hear about the Yorkshire terrier who chewed of a couple of fingers from a child. You also don't hear about the fact you're more likely to be bit by a Labrador than a so called 'dangerous dog'. I guess a Yorkshire isn't as sensasional as a Staff, Bully ect.

I've two staffies, both male and both under 12months, they are the cutest little things, full of love and play. Both are also quick to learn and very obediant.

I believe this is something the governmant should reveiw and not give a knee jerk reation to.

Re: Dangerous Dogs Act - Rubbish!!!

We have an old chap comes to agility classes with his rescue staffy X boxer. After he got him he got a pet passport and jabbed up for rabies, so he could go to europe with him on his caravaning holidays, only to find out that the campsites in europe will not accept staffs or crosses of staffs. So he holidays in britain now, where there are no such rules.

i agree the media hype things up with the way they report, if its a cross breed, its always reported as a staffy x or rottie x, no mention of the other part of the dog.

I don't own staffs, but do have Shepherds and they can cause some funny reactions in people.

Re: Dangerous Dogs Act - Rubbish!!!

i know alot of people with them yorkie terriers ( not personally ) but i can say 9 out of 10 of them yorkies are yappy nasty lil things, and they dont get the name our staffys, bullys, rottys and sheppards ect get. why? coz their little?
a yorkie can do as much damage to a child, infact my aunt used to own one and it bit my son on the knee when he was little, it used to fly out from under the chair and bite ya then run back under lol, sounds funny but it blooming well hurt.
i bet ya more of them lil dogs have bitten people then any of our bigger dogs who seem to be more dosile to me.

I couldnt agree more. my brother has two and one is as placi as the day is long, and the other is a complete attention seeking diva who loves cuddles and kisses!!!

Yet his friend got one as a status symbol, it killed a cat upon request and has been put down for it.

I think its wrong, they are like children, you dont bring children up to attack people so why bring dogs up to attack people and other animals???

Dogs can be kind, and terratorial at the same time, without agression.

It probably take less time to get that balance than it does to stupidly train your dog for making you look 'tough'

Re: Dangerous Dogs Act - Rubbish!!!

Also, my aunt has a male german shepherd who is taller than my 6ft 3 brother when on his back legs and someone reported him for being dangerous, purely because they walked past the house and it was out having a tinkle. Just because its big doesnt mean its dangerous!

He is the softest, dopiest dog going!

Re: Dangerous Dogs Act - Rubbish!!!

I agree with what everyone is saying, ban the owner not the breed. BUT, breeds can have aggression bred into them after a period of time. Such as the pitt bull for example. The types of people to own and breed pitts, generally speaking, would be the types to want them to be aggressive. Therefore they breed the most aggressive dogs to the most aggressive bitches. So you end up with a breed thats 90% of the time, aggressive. This can sometimes be changed through training from a very young age, and it has to be meticulous but a dangerous dog is a dangerous dog at the end of the day. And although training can be kept up and muzzles can be worn at all times, they are still dangerous.

Re: Dangerous Dogs Act - Rubbish!!!

Great post there Dawny, I think that's where the government are coming from.

My next door neighbour has 2 staffy guard dogs, problem is they are 2 of the biggest softies in the world. I tended to stay clear of them due to the whole pit bull/staffy similarity.

This being my first real interaction and they are lovely dogs!Terrible guard dogs mind!
