I'm still in shock!

This morning before training my husband went with the dogs in the garden while I was preparing some food and drinks for the training.

Then I suddenly hear my husband shouting outside " Maaayyaaa, Maaayyaaa!!!!"
Being nosey I look out the window and see maya running with something in her mouth, Cobi running after maya and my husband running after them both.
Weird situation! So I run out and see maya with a pheasent in her mouth eek: a real one!

I started screaming my throat out now joining in into the race... Me beeing totally furious
Caught up maya (I'm a fast runner hehe) and she seen me and let the pheasent go which tried to get out the garden throgh the fence. And then Cobi gives it a nip thankfully with Cobi the leave command worked really good in this situation!

The pheasent made it through the fence afterall and I feel so sorry for it as it must have got the biggest shock on its life it wasn't hurt thankfully I hope!

What a start into the day!
my throat is sore from screaming now

My thoughts exactly - you'd pay a lot for Pheasant in a restaurant

Although I appreciate that it's not something you actually want to encourage - It was bad enough when Zipper caught a frog

Umbongo is an unknown quantity at this point
Re: I'm still in shock!

Here's the gen. That pheasant probably cost about £3, that being the price I paid for my poults anyway, so the local game keeper is not going to be too chuffed, but if it's on your land, well, fair game.....

Pheasants are quite stupid, and as it's early in the season, they won't have got used to getting out of the way of dogs. They will learn, or they will get eaten by Mr Foxy Loxy. I should have thrashed the dog for chasing and catching the pheasant, to discourage it from doing it again, and I wouldn't want your dogs to suffer at the hands of a game keeper.

Having said that, if you get pheasants coming into your garden, fair game. Kill em and eat them. You don't need a recipe, just hang it for 3-4 days, pluck it, draw it, roast it with some streaky bacon on it's back. Better for you than chicken, they're free range, and delicious.

But a bad idea to let your dogs think it's a game, so I should put a lid on that sort of thing now.

Re: I'm still in shock!

the phaseants were in our garden so the game keeper has nothing to complain about LOL

We always have them in the garden... They never bothered with them. But then I blame myself as I insisted to get the dogs a toy duck which looks similar to a phaseants and I think that's what encouraged them to chase it
next time I just have to make sure all phaseants are out the garden before the dogs can go out

Re: I'm still in shock!

That's the Siberian Husky in Maya coming out. It will be very difficult, if not impossible, to train the prey drive out of her - she is just doing what is hard-wired into her personality. Our huskies will take birds in flight if they fly too low over the garden and if squirrels or cats come into the garden, they are very definitely at risk.
